Seasonic Flagship PRIME 850W Power Supply Review

Seasonic is one of our long-time favorites when it comes to high power and high efficiency desktop computer power supplies. Seasonic does not introduce wave after wave of new PSU series, so when it does come across with a new platform it gets our attention. Is the TITANIUM rated PRIME 850W worthy of yours?

Spectre, did you buy your reviewed specimen?

Hmm. OW's unit was no aberration.

Hmm rather high (for a unit of this prestige) transient response again.

That's no biggie, just solder a huge 0.5 - 1 F car stereo capacitor to the 12V output and there should be no transient Vdroop anymore! You could show it off proudly; similar to how a cylindrical watercooling reservoir is displayed in a windowed case.

turkey3_scratch 10-05-2016 07:24 PM

How is it not a biggie though? You even said a couple years ago transient response might be the most important performance test.

I suppose sarcasm indeed doesn't get across very well on the internet... :p

That being said, you simply can't have high efficiency and transient response robustness without going grossly overboard with the price.
