Hi,

I have a DFI AD 77 Socket A motherboard, with an Athlon XP 2600+, 1 GB Kingston 333 DDR memory, 60 Gb HD, 120 Gb HD, Lite-On DVDRW, Creative CDRW (old), MSI MX 4000 64 Mb AGP 8x graphics card, plus an additional fan ...

My current PS is OEM 450W with:
+5v - 28A
-5v - 0.5A
+12v - 18A
-12v - 0.8A
+3.3v - 20A
+5vSB - 1.5A
I got it in a trip to China in October 2004.

The motherboard DOES NOT have 2x2 12v connector ...
This is working normally.

I decided to upgrade my graphics card to a Sapphire RADEON X1950 PRO 512Mb AGP 8x which has a significant power requirement ...

So my question is will my existent Power Supply be able to handle the new card? Or do I need to replace it? Should I wait until the card arrives and test it or that will be a waste of time?

I read several forums and several opinions regarding PS upgrades and Graphic cards requirements and some seem contradictory, because some says it actually suffices with less wattage and less amps on +12v, and others ask for 28A minimum ... Some also mention the fact that Socket A motherboards won't benefit at all ...

Thank you

it really depends on the quality of the psu, and how many watts the 12v line is rated for

The +12v has 18A as I posted ...

that doesn't mean thats how many watts can can be provided by the 12v line

???
Please forgive my ignorance but then from where can I find out the actual output of the +12v line???

I already read about 10 or 20 threads and apparently if it's marked that way it supposed to deliver that ... ????

I'm confused ...

I would say no. "OEM psu" is scary enough, but when you say you want it to power an X1950 pro, well, that's mo' betta scarier.

What you need to do is look at the label for the combined{+12v, +5v,+3.3v}
wattage , but being a "OEM 450" PSU, I doubt it has these listed;)
