For those of you considering if the "upgrade" is for you or not with a ATI card:)

I'll stick to XP for a while. I just upgraded to SP2, so no need to hurry. :D

My experience has been 2D only so far but I've been using a Dell Inspiron E1505 notebook, Core Duo cpu, ATI Mobility X1400, 2 gig DDR2 etc with Vista Ultimate for 3 weeks now and it's been problem free. I don't know if I would actually buy Vista yet, but it's treated me well so far.

Vista is pretty and has some nice GUI features, but I see no point in being a beta tester for a retail release. I'll get it when I need DX10.

Heard today next OS is due in 2-2.5 years. I might just wait till then, or at least till vista is mainstream and avalilbe for cheap from school :).

what is vista like from a tech's point of view? an easy transition from xp or is there going to be a need to run it to get familiar?

Oh yeah, you certainly need to spend time on it and figure out many procedures. As of yet there's too many dry and unclear area's. I have Home Premium and Ultimate 32bit at home (but hardly use them) and we have Ultimate x86-32/64 both at work. Honestly I'm no where near fond of them.
