i have a problem. my current psu won't power my system (fully loaded).

system specs
biostar tforce AM2
sempron 2800+ @ 2.6ghz
2gb of G. Skill HZ
x1950xt
1 dvd-rw drive
1 seagate 250 gb hdd
4 120mm 130 cfm delta's
2 80mm led fans
1 92mm fan

i currently have this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817104952) fortron 400w psu. when i load my video card (oblivion with high settings, ati tool artifact scan) my psu makes a "bzzt" sound.

my idea was to buy this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817104951) psu and use it just on my video card. (i only have ~$30 to spend)

plan is to get that psu and wire it up to my video card's 6pin pci-e power plug. then hook the black and green wires on the second psu's atx connector to the main psu's atx connector so it jump starts the second psu on start up.

goal=get the rig powered so i can use the x1950xt to its full power (its a brand new card, just got it)

thoughts?

It will work fine, but wiether its a good idea or a bad I dea, lets just say I have done this in the past so :P I'm not the person to ask.

BUT when I did basicly the same idea as you did it worked flawlessly with the few exceptions, for example when the 2nd psu turned on late and caused some boot up problems.

I only did it for a day thou till I got a better psu (I am very impaitent), while I was using it it worked fine. I'll leave it for the guys who know more about this PSU stuff then me. :p (I'm learning thou!!!! :D)

The buy http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=PS-E1136FA

The specs http://www.enhanceusa.com/series.php?series_id=4#15

A friend of mine uses two of these on his and his wife's small LAN boxes.
He opened them up and said the build quality was much better than the Antec SmartPower units he's had.
His name is Zap, an Elite member over at AnandTech.

why do you have so damn many fans? take out 1gig of memory and all but 2 of your 120mm fans and you should be able to get by until payday.

ok, with that said, what about this 400w Hipro (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817174022) it's alleged to have active PFC.

You have 7 fans?
When I was using generic PSU`s bewfore I switched. I would run into the same issue. First of all of all the fans you have if your going to disconnect a fasn disconnect the fan on top of the case first.....because usally that won`t affect your air flow very much.

As was previously stated disconnect some fans and you should be fine until payday or even beyond.

Good Luck!!
