This question applies to the 4pin aux connector (molex type) on many mobos which some people say you need to run sli. On the abit IN9 32X-MAX (just out) it is not possible to use this connector and have a 2nd G80 plugged in, as the G80blocks it *suppose you could cut the molex connector in half*. The IN9 manual says this connector is needed to supply additional power for pci-e cards. Nothing about sli. Considering if you are running sli with 2 8800GTX's you will already be using 4 pci-e connectors - should that not be providing sufficient power already ?

That molex is for SLI setups using cards that don't have PCI-e power connectors such as the 7600GT/GS and down. No need to even look twice at it if your cards have power connectors on them. Don't sweat it.

cheers mat,
that's what I reckoned, but wasn't sure. try telling that to some of the people on the ocuk forums who are whigging out over it :wall:

Yeah, the whole reason for it is to beef up the power going to the PCI-e slots and if your GPU gets it's power from a connector the slots don't need beefing up.

I know a guy with 7800GT's in SLI that uses that molex and won't try it without it. I'm trying to explain to him that it's not needed and he's just making things difficult for himself but it's like talking to a wall.
