Does the x1900xt really use 30 amperes on load? i wanted to use a crossfire configuration but it seems like 2 of them would draw some serious amperes. so can someone please explain?

12A at most. The 30A is the recommendation for the whole rig ;)

Xbitlabs measured it to draw 110w peak, though this will increase a bit with overclocking. If your running crossfire choose a psu that puts the video cards on seperate 12V rails (just about all 3 or 4 12V rail psu's do this), or has one big 12V rail. Most dual 12V rail psu's won't cut it, they'll shut down since 2 x1900xt cards + drives + fan etc will draw more than 20A which is more than what 12V1 has. Or if thats too confusing just pick one of the x1900/x1950 crossfire certified psu's
