I wonder what the policy is here about crossposting? I'm just trying to get as much info from as many sources as possible. I know I kinda already posted something about this in the New Strider & Olympia thread.
So I really like the specs on this PSU!
link -->> http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-op650.htm
I want to get more information about it specifically like, who makes it? Someone in the other thread suggested Enhance but no one seemed to confirm it or not. If it is Enhance, what other PSUs are based off the same part? That would help to go check if there are reviews for ripple, volt performance, etc.
Sundial Micro already has it in stock for $130 -->> http://www.sundialmicro.com/silverstone_1000watt_power_supply_sstop1000_1723_9 60.html
For 650W, and such a large single 12V rail (54A) that seems like it would be a good price, no?
Anyone getting one for review? jonny?
EDIT : Some other questions/ideas, what is the Olympia line marketed towards? I thought it was suppsoed to be just the 1000W line but now with this at 650W I am wondering how its supposed to compete against the Zeus line?

Is that 120mm fan placed on top of the PSU intake or exhaust?

Fans on the bottom of the PSU are always intake. Hot air exhausts out of the back of the case.

Silverstone power is provided by Etasis or Enhance.
My money says the OP650 is built by Enhance. I have no UL number to confirm this however.
The octagon exhaust grill stamping, the switch/power plug placement, the stamping for the intake grill
and most importantly, the type of heat sinks used scream Enhance.
If Etasis built this unit it would cost more. ;)

So, does anyone have any guesses about its performance? ;)

I guess it'll perform like a power supply :D

I don't make guesses.
No judgement is made until the unit is in hand. :D

*sigh* lol I should have guessed as much. Ok, time for round 2.
Are there any other power supplies out there that are built off of the same Enhance model (if that does turn out to be the OEM) that you know of? If that is the case, there may be reviews available.
Also, I had asked this earlier but its still bugging me, I don't understand how Silverstone has their power supplies differentiated. What differentiates the Zeus line from the Olympia line? Different OEMs obviously but is there anything else? Is one supposed to be higher performance than another? Its not modularness. The Strider line is for that.

The Zeus line is still the best performing thanks to all the Etasis models there. Looks like the Olympia models are supposed to identify the single 12v models. The Geminis are the server models. Nightjar - silence oriented models. Strider - value models.
That's all a guess on my part ;)

Just spoke with someone at Silverstone about the OP650.
Apparently it's an Olympia and not a Strider because it's not just a relabel. I was told this was the first PSU that Silverstone's own engineers designed from the ground up.
Needless to say, I asked for a sample. :D

A Silverstone PSU? Hmmmm, so I wonder if they are "tweaking" the platform, like
PC P&C is doing with the Silencers mabey:confused: ......stay tuned:D

YES! Oh man, can't wait. If you could make it a point to address the 8-pin connector in your review, when you write it, regarding whether it is the correct one or not, that would be awesome.
I really like what this PSU has to offer so I am hoping to performes well so I have a clean conscious when I buy it

LOL!
When someone at Silverstone tells me they designed a PSU, I tend to believe them over someone at... well... a certain company that uses Seasonic as an OEM. :D

Another thing to note; this unit is made in Taiwan, not China.
I heard that Enhance was building a new factory, but I wasn't sure where. I suppose this could be one of the first things that have come out of that new factory.
And supposedly, the designers that put this PSU together used to work for Etasis, so it's some sort of hybrid of the best of all resources.

Ok, obligatory stupid question but why is Taiwan better than China?
OT...Taiwanese is a dying language. It was never formed into a written language due to Taiwan constantly being conquered and the natives having the language of their new masters shoved down their throats. As a result, Taiwanese is a spoken language only and when it ceases to be spoken it will be dead with no record.

There's still a few cultural reasons why Taiwan workers would be better than Chinese workers.
But in this new factory it doesn't really matter so much since most of the floor is run by robots.

More OT: The Taiwanese language actually originates from a South Chinese dialect known as Hokkien. There are slight differences but they are very similar. It is one of the most prevalent dialects over here. AFAIK it is gradually going into disuse among Taiwanese youths though.
