I used to use a Megellan plugged into the PCMCIA that cost me about $100 and bought a copy of Rand McNalley's software for $19.99.

The thing about PC GPS, unlike cell phone, is that you only pay for the hardware and software once... and then you can use it indefinitely. Unless of course you want an update to your maps (new roads, etc.) But then the software is only $19.95 a year and you really only need new maps once every two or three years. :D

Also, I can buy a adapter to connect the laptop to the car for electricity?

Of course.

Although, I just use a DC to AC adapter.

If you want to try it on the cheap, I have a retail copy of MS Streets & Trips 2005 and a MS USB GPS I'll sell you for $40 shipped.
