I have a one SSD and one mechanical hdd. I store all the data that i rarely use to the latter. But it makes noise when the PC is on. So i have to unplug the power cable. The problem is that, the hdd still spins even i dont use it.
So is there a way to totaly deavtive it via software so that i dont have to plug and unplug it all the time?

I don't know what OS you are using, but in windows 7 under power options if you go to advanced settings and expand the hard disk field, you can set the time intervals that it turns off after.

Take it out of the case and put it in an external docking station that you can turn on and off when you want to use it. :D
