1 12v rail rated at 20amps.

I just bought a 7950gt, p965 mobo, e6400 and a gig of ram.
plus my sound card, dvd drive, floppy, and harddrive.

Can this power supply run it? I would have to buy a 20-24 pin converter because I only have the 20pin.

am I risking frying my stuff?

Love to get away without buying one, but not if I am endanger of frying stuff.

I'd suggest getting a new PSU, that's quite a bit of load for that old true 430 to try to carry.

If the 430TP is over three years old (warrenty) open it up and you will most likely find leaking/bulging/vented Fuhjyyu capacitors under the wiring harness at the PCB. :p

so.. are you guys saying it will not run.. or it may not run.
if I try it is there a chance of damaging parts?

I have reached the point of hating old TruePower and SmartPower units.
Yes damage can and will happen. These crap PSUs get posted over at AnandTech almost daily.

No one can read or comprehend it for you... :D

I most strongly suggested you open your TP 430 for inspection. Do it if it's over three years old as it has no warrenty left.

No need to spend bags of money on a new PSU but remember that a good power supply is the very cornor stone of a stable rig. About 35% of all PC problems are generated at the PSU.

I just pulled my 3+ year old True Blue 480W apart and found that the caps you spoke of were fine. No bulging, no leaking, nada aside from some dust and a bit of glue from them to the choke behind the rear pair.

My sister has a 5+ year old 430 that I'll rip apart when she comes out to visit just to see how it's faired, I'm really curious about it since I gutted the stock fans and put LED fans in it instead.

I'm still of the mind that more Antecs with Fuhjyyu caps hold up over time than ones that fail. However, my Smartpower 350W held up for three years before the caps started bulging too. A lot depends on how cool the PSU's run and whether or the Fuhjyyus came from a good batch.

Yes OKW, it is dependent on ambient temps and the load life of the TP or SP in question.
Many got these power supplies with an Antec case and never installed an intake fan. The PSU was the main exhaust fan. This is not a good thing. ;)

I did read that pdf posted by davmax (badcaps) awhile back about traces of copper in the aluminum foil of cheap capacitors and how the copper reacts w/the electrolyte to produce hydrogen that vents.

Indeed. The bottom line is, Channel Well could have used parts that were significantly more resistant to failure than Fuhjyyu ;)

My Tp 430 is still alive and kicking these past 3 years and I'll be frelled if I'm
pulling out that 60+ pound case out of the closet to confirm my fears, it's bad enough hooking up new drives:p

That's it's death cradle, and there it will stay until it commits harri carri;)
Am I worried about my 8 drives, no, but it,s not like I game on it either:)
I do have better then good airflow in that setup, so I think she might last
long enough for OW to complete my Neo;)

Still waiting on the caps ;)

No rush, my master:D

so should I try an adapter cable or no? would it be too much of a risk?

I wouldn't do it without making sure the caps weren't bulging or leaking first.

With a modern rig such as yours, I would say no;)
But if your a tight wad and don't want to ante up for a new PSU, give it a shot, what's the worst that could happen besides all your hardware going up in smoke? It will probably run it, but for how long is the question;)

Sorry for the DP but I just noticed that you stated your TP 430 as only having
20A on the +12V rail, if it is gen1 like mine, these are your specs:

I think Antec has listed the max combined peak amps
But mine says 26A, and I have 4 SATA plugs:o
I guess I have a refreshed gen 1:o
I stand corrected, but it's still a TP no matter how you look at it and if yours
only has 20A on the +12V, thats too weak for that monster video card;)

Do not start a new thread every time you have an idea for a different power supply for your machine. This only requires one thread.

I've gone ahead and merged your other two threads.
