I just purchased my 5th one of these,excellent price,compared to the $250
they use to be.

How is this a hot deal? $140 for 300GB? I got my 320GB about a year ago from Newegg for $100, and it was a Western Digital, not Maxtor.

I wouldn't say Hot deal, but it's a decent drive. Mine is flawless. I bought a 200gb, it caught on fire, maxtor replaced it (with their excellent support, 1 minute for the rma), and now i have the 300.

Your WD is only 8mb cache,slow seek times,and rus hot as the inside of a well diggers ass,

I know,becouse I purchased one for my wife a year ago SATA, right?

Thats why its only $100.

Read the reviews on it,almost as fast as a 36gb Raptor

It takes me 25sec to upload a 700mb file to one of those drives,thats
where the 16mb cache comes in:D

Only $90 now, and it is very cool and I haven't had any speed issues. If you want to spend $140 on a 300GB drive, be my guest. But as far as I'm concerned this is a bad deal.

That's a great drive and that's a very good price for that drive.

DB=I dont mean to be a dick,but your kind of comparing apples to oranges here:)

I have a very strong opinion of this drive as you can tell.
The previous 4 I have{one being SATA} have been chugging strong for 3 years since I've installed them:D More then I can say about any other drive
I have owned!:p FYI I also have a 200gb and a 500gb of the same series with zero problems!

Western Digital drives on average last much longer then Maxtor drive. Along with a longer warantee to boot. I think the overall average life of a certain drive is much more accurate then one persons experience.

on average,your right.
what does average mean anyways? Pc idle while in screensaver mode?
My media server is doing much more then average read and writes, 24/7.
And I'm not comparing Maxtor to WD!
I was comparing the "two" said drives to each other.
I love WD for my gameing and "average" desktop needs,but when it comes down to streaming and uploading files to multiple Pc's at the same time,
the Maxtor's cache and speed wins out for my setup:D

If your willing to spend $50 extra so your uploads/downloads can finish 1.563 seconds quicker, then sobeit. But, what was this thread made for? To say that this is a "hot deal". Not exactly a "hot deal" to many.

If I was concerned about the price vs performance, I would just throw in a
bunch 2mb cache Seagates from Wal-Mart:D

And as I'm not the only one that disagrees with you about this being a
"hot deal", then delete the post.
