Hmm..searched the forum, no mention of this Manufacturer..

BFG

I ordered a Maingear boutique build F131, and upgraded to the 1k psu option

oddly, the nice thing about their builds are the top name brand components..everything i selected is name.. except the PSU

listed as the Maingear 1000watt psu. Obviously they re tag someone's psu, maybe they leave themselves open to whats avail.. I posted to their forum for them to define this... and will call if no response

but pics of their same model rig on their site show a BFG psu.. at least used in the past..

any feedback on this brand?

Thank you

I think, may be wrong, consensus on the BGF 1000w is its a topower, which according to jonny can be a bit hit and miss.

topower are responsible for some very respected makes, tagan one of them, so you are pretty safe in that respect, yes there may be better out there.

One of my fave psu's was a topower, based on impression of build quality, but I never had the chance to test it in anger. I did like the build very much indeed.

Having now got some of jonny's highest rated ones, I am going to reacquire that one I had to see how it squares up, obviously, tho, I can't test it to the exhaustive extent jonny does.

Its actually the cheapest 1kwatter out there to the tune of circa $100.

Whether it is real 1kw is yet to be seen, I should be very interested to see jonny's test on it. I am left wondering why its so much cheaper than the rest...it may be a bargain, or a dog.

bfg, btw stands for big fat gyet:D

that's assuming it arrives with a bfg psu in it? have you got it yet? And tbh, I wouldn't put SOME people past this, it may have a 1kw sticker on it, but do you know its actually a 1kw model inside? I don't mean to make you paranoid, but there are some dodgy people out there, no implication intended, just scepticism from things that have happened in the past.

be aware that some firms dislike intensely consumers prying into who make their stuff for them, they seem to think they have a god given right to be secretive, in that knowing the truth will somehow make people either think less of them, or dumb consumers don't need to know or have the power to understand, or be commercial suicide, however, I think secrecy means they have something to hide, which quite often is true. And it means they can rip you off, by charging a lot more than you can get it elsewhere if you are in the know. ( I have only said this, as if you get told where to go, or to mind your business, you know why, they may be very nice and totally transparent)

As an aside, in the past I have found manufacturers in another arena rubbing IC makes/models off for fear that someone will pinch the design, they also claimed it was their own design, whilst copying of the chip makers application note, and even having the gall to cover the circuitry up with x-ray proof goo.

I will leave people more in the know to comment further....

BFG is using Topower at the moment, having been through FSP/Powertech and one other I can't recall the name of in the past. Topower IMO is definitely hit and miss, but mostly miss :(

ATNG and the FSP/Powertech units are actually a kin to the 3Y units. I got my hands on a 550W unit and was surprised to find you could actually kill someone with it, it's so damn heavy.

I'm not surprised... as I recall those Powertech models were based on the FSP550-60PLN, which was a big heavy indy regulated dual PCB design. I was so disappointed when FSP replaced those with the Epsilons as their server offerings :(
