View Full Version : What's the best way to hook up a Silverstone 750ZF?

Ok so I was always had a preference for large single-rail PSUs. But based on the expert opinions of JG and others I decided that a good multi-rail PSU would be ok as well. I probably could have gotten a pseudo-multi rail like the Corsair 620 or the Seasonics but this unit was close in price to the Corsair and less than the Seasonics, seemed like a good deal to me.

So, looking back at JGs review of this PSU I see he mentions only using half of the 8-pin EPS connector to power the CPU off rail 1, leaving rail 2 for the SATA connectors. This makes sense of course in terms of power draw, the CPU doesn't need more than 18A, so I have 2 questions:

1) Will using half the connector still provide solid power through the motherboard power circuitry? What I'm thinking is that it's possible the motherboard will work better with all 8 pins connected, not because of the total power draw but because of the way the mobo power circuitry is designed to take in power. But I have no idea about mobo power circuitry so I ask here ;) does all the power going in through 4 inputs instead of 8 make a difference? It's a P5B-deluxe wifi.

2) If I do only use half the 8-pin connector, how will I know which half is on which rail without having test equipment? The P5B-D comes with half the EPS connector blocked off anyway, so obviously I would use those 4 pins I just don't know how to be sure it's using rail 1.

Your SATA's don't need that much power either. ;)

Just hook it up. :D

Heh I know they don't but I was thinking more about the drives introducing noise onto the rail.

Just to be crystal clear for my sake, 'just hook it up' means you're recommending hooking up all 8 pins?

Maybe this could touch off an article by a power genius like yourself, 4-pin vs 8-pin and how it gets distributed on the motherboard.

btw I thought this might interest you as well. I got a 'V2.0' of the PSU recently, I'm not sure what the changes might be, the only externally visible changes are the color of the fan grill :p

Sadly the warranty sticker is already half-way broken :o no idea what's up with that, except that it's along the seam between the two case pieces but the sticker isn't broken where it says 'void.'

as you can see it's revision 'A3.' I wonder if there were any electrical changes? The only negative I remember from your review is the increased ripple under relatively high load.

It's a mistake:p My ST850ZF has the same UL:p
Trust me, they are both made by Etasis;)

I was gonna say, I have the 75ZF v2 as well, and I thought they might have changed OEM's.

Whew. That's good to know.

Madman, My zeus 750 v2 warranty sticker was half broken also. I emailed Taiwan and they sent a message saying that it was fine and to keep their answer in case anyone else asked in the event of a warranty claim. Thought it was just my unit though...

It better not be Enhance built! I could have gotten a strider instead and saved some money :p

And how do you search for UL numbers? I went to their website and tried a search but the results weren't useful.

I won't link it as it removes "the joy of discovery." :D

Ok so is it made by Enhance or Etasis? I don't really see how they could get away with selling it with the wrong UL number, surely they would have at least corrected that. I can't read the UL number in JG's original review, maybe he can get the V1 number.

750ZF should be Etasis, right?
