4 + 4 pin proc. connector

So I just got my package in the mail today, and noticed that the connector for the CPU is a 4 + 4 pin connector. My mobo requires a 4 pin connector. Can I use the 4 + 4 on my power supply with my mobo, or am I up shit creek until I get an adaptor?

Are you sure that the 8 pin does not slide apart to become 2x4 pin ATX connectors?
I think that is what you're talkin' about.

It's two seperate 2x2 power connectors on the same strand of wires.

Right... Half of an 8-pin is a 4-pin. You use one of the halves.

Seems obvious enough, but after reading the Dell forums and hearing about propriety parts that light on fire I was a bit more than concerned.

Thankfully the 4700 doesn't use proprietary parts except for case/mobo fitting.

No, the problem is this:

the second half of the 8-pin, the half that you are not supposed to plug into the mainboard, fits the mainboard notches if you turn it 90 degrees. If you plug it in that way you end up with power in one ground pin and with one power pin shortened to ground.

I did that to my DFI and an OCZ PSU. No smoke and luckily it started working again after a couple hours. But I tell you, not amused.

yeah...just check the PSU manual and see if it states with one to use.
the enermax i have has a "12v" label on one half of the 4+4 pin cpu connector.
