My *just* out of factory warranty Compaq CQ60-420US is having a battery issue. At the same point, around 37% battery life, it shuts down. If I run the HP battery test, it comes up as bad. But, if I charge it back up fully, the diagnostics come up good.

I'm thinking it's a dead cell, at this point. Does that sound like a bad cell issue to you guys?

I did buy the Staples extended service plan (not the one with accidental damage, just the regular one), so I do have 4 years of coverage which includes a one-time battery replacement, so I'll probably just use that, although I may buy an extra battery also.

sounds like a dead cell to me, but the base batteries HP/Compaq uses are pretty unspectacular to begin with.

Know if any of the generic batteries are any good? I'm considering getting a 12 cell, and some of the generic ones are half the price of the base 6 cell.

what model battery? if i find the one out of my hp dv4 that died, (i kept the battery), and its the same one (and if i find it) you can have it for the price of shipping. but many of the generic batts are old stock cells and they have already detiorated and gotten worse. ya know that batteries can get worn by just sitting there-stupid shit i know :)

The part number is labeled as 484170-001. Yeah, I know; hate Lithium-Ion with a passion, but it's pretty much all that is used right now. At least we've (mostly) gotten past the memory effect...
