Uh, so based on these benchmark results it's a step back? I'm guessing it have to be really immature drivers they used to get such disastrous results.

Nope because 68xx are replacements for 57xx. 69xx will be replacements for 58xx. :)
So basically 68xx series are fighting against GTX460.

The link states these are for the "Barts" series, which is 67xx. So roughly the performance of 58xx. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_9vgJ1nwu_xA/TKCjsiPv5aI/AAAAAAAAEss/4DELrJTzC_o/s1600/fullimage.php.jpg
68xx series is Cayman, and likely will be roughly 2x the performance of the current top series.

AMD's going to rebrand HD57xx to HD67xx, therefore, "Barts" is HD68xx, Cayman is HD69xx.

Sounds like a great marketing decision. Now lots of people will get as confused as me. Hopefully the attached price tag will help clear things up :)

Yep, they followed nVidia path with 8800GT-9800GT-9800GTX+-GTS250. :wall:

I can usually keep up with the GPU names but the naming on this next ATI generation just seems really off. If they are supposed to be replacements then the naming should be similar to the previous generation.

I'd like an AMD rep's thoughts on this decision. I can't see how it makes sense in any way

So, the 5770 replacement (6870) is almost as fast as the 5870 (which will be replaced by the 6970). Nice stats!
Still only a 256bit memory interface tho, which is OK for a mid-range card, let's hope for ATi's sake that the 69xx can stretch to a bit more memory bandwidth.
I want to see them in comparison to the gtx4x0 cards tho.
