Ripple suppression not so impressive. It is better than a PUC, but not impressive still

Coolermaster always makes somewhat decent power supplies. I love their cases but there PSU's need work or a different OEM.

There are only four Chemi-con KZE 2200uF caps for 12V output filtering. Although a PI filter can help ripple suppression, the number of caps tells you everything. Coolermaster isn't ambitious to make superb ripple suppression.

easy fix and they didn't opt for it...what a disappointment

There are more examples of lousy CM PSUs beyond those, that was just what I had at hand.

Not really...
Coolermaster has some decent units but most of them, you really can't buy, they're not that good...

most of the performance still quiet good except the sleeve fan, I really don't understand why use a sleeve fan on the top model

Well, sleeve fans are quieter - for a time, while double ball bearing fans are louder but last longer.
So it's something like a pest or cholera decision...

A sleeve baring is not that bad; except the positioning of a PSU always makes it a crappy option because it's in negative contrast to how a sleeve baring fan likes to be positioned.
Though, to be honest; any decent SB fans will not drastically change based on positioning. I've got two (real) Yate Loon D14SM-12's from PTS and in either Horizontal or Vertical positioning, they sound profile is relatively the same. And much better if you remove the honeycomb or mesh grills and just use wire grills (like most PSU's do.)
As for this unit itself, what's already been said is pretty solid; they could have had a great design if they stepped up the ripple suppression. Which always seems to be the case with CM. They've got an all around good unit with one short coming that knocks it down.
Though, I never see why they over-rate their units every time. Usually 12v power is 100w below total continuous power. When more and more of the "high end" companies are going only around 25-50w. Or even in the case of some of the ToughpowerXT's, rated purely on 12v output.

It's based on DC/DC secondary design so it really doesn't matter how the label says about the 12V power. It's virtually 100% of total power.

I'm more wondering if their is a cost difference to the way they label the 12v output.
As in, does it save them enough to justify the face damage. (IE: damage that could occur to public image.)
Most people don't consider that, but it's a big considering while make cost cuts. Companies don't just consider what money they save, they also try to hide it so that they don't have face damage.
More and more folks atleast understand how to read a PSU label now a days and look up UL numbers.
So at a certain point, their image could be hurt from the way they operate

The Transformer looks a little small to me.
Anything special with this unit?

Yeah its design is special. It uses a PQ core which has a larger core area rather than the ERL or ETD core. Its orientation is different from usual designs. The secondary 12V winding is split into two parts and connected by a metal tape. The Active-Clamp Forward design also uses the transformer more efficiently. Those resulted in a much more compact transformer design. I need SMPS experts to explain how this can be done.

There are people out there who don't want to open the casing of a PSU for a review, no matter how hard you trie :(

Woa, when I said they had somewhat decent Power Supplies is that not all of them are good. Some of them are, most or kind of mediocre to bad. Although I find them better than OCZ PSU's (minus their Gold Series).

OCZ's low end ModXStream & StealXStream 400/500w units are much more attractive than the Cooler Master eXtreme Power stuff.

Their 1000W Silent Pro M series wasn't too shabby. I seen them for about $160 CDN which isn't bad. I know its not the greatest but its alright considering the price.
