When the Sunbeam NUUO 550W was originally tested, that model had no PFC. As there is a model with a PF value of 0.95 ~ 0.99, would you recommend it more highly now? I've been building systems for a while now, but I've never been adventurous enough to mod a PSU. I'd rather not have to re-cap this one if I choose to buy it. Just looking for a suggestion or any other ideas. Here's my setup, which won't be changing anytime soon:

Socket AM2 Athlon 64 X2 4200+
Abit KN9 Ultra
2GB Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400 DDR2-800
PNY GeForce 7900GS 256MB
WD Raptor 36.7GB
WD Caviar SATA II 250GB
Lite-On DVD-R/W

I have no plans of overclocking any of it. This PSU would replace an Ultra X-2 550W that Ultra sent me at no charge to replace a failed Ultra X-Connect 500W. Since most of the components mentioned above are new within the last month, I'd rather not subject them to another potential failure. Is the Sunbeam an upgrade to the X-2? Or am I doing myself no favors? My budget is very firm at under $100, unfortunately. I know that $105 wouldn't be that much of a stretch, but at this point, it's just not an option. So to close this epic novel out, I need a good, reliable PSU for under $100. Is the Sunbeam a decent choice?

No. ;)

The PFC model is a EU 230V only model.

Don't go by the Newegg description. It's wrong. It says it has PF, but when you get it you'll find it does not.

And IMHO, a Sunbeamtech is certainly not an upgrade over an X2. If you received one as a repalcement for the old school X-Connect consider yourself lucky. That's a serious upgrade. The two aren't even from the same OEM and the quality difference between the two (the X-Connect and X2) is like night and day.

Excellent! Thanks for the quick response, brother. By the time I posted the thread, chased my two-year-old around the kitchen twice, and finally wrestled him into his bed for the night, you'd responded. Much appreciated!
