Here's a no-nonsense review by our very own madmat at Techgage:D
That I had great pleasure ripping from the news, it deserves to be in the
forums as well;)
Good job mat:)

Thanks, I wish I could've given it a 9 ;) but it's just not of that caliber. It's a solid middle of the road Kw PSU but for the money? Gimme a Seventeam built unit and I'll be happy for that much scratch. Now, if you can find a used one for a song then you're definitely not getting hurt as long as you don't end up combing any rails.

Great review!!!

It would have been nice to include your ripple measurements in the chart. :)

They were too screwed up by the rails hating being combined. had I took screen shots no-one would've believed that it was only due to the rail combining and started trying to make more out of it than it was.

Probably has something to do with the 12v rails being fed from windings from two transformers, rather than just making one transformer for the 12v only and the other for the 5v/3.3v section.

Not too big a deal, but I still wonder why they didn't just make the 12v section fully independant.

You know what's funny....

Matt, correct me if I'm wrong, but they sent you this PSU, right? Neither you nor Rob actually ASKED for it, right?

I just noticed A LOT of Tagan reviews popping up all of the sudden and it makes me think that they had some guy sit down and send out a bunch of "we'd like you to review this PSU" emails.

Well... I never got an email like this from Tagan and I have to wonder.. not bragging here.. Are there some PSU companies that are flat out SCARED to send me product? :D

that's what I have figured too, could be feedback through the FETS for the 2 12V rails too if that's possible.

We were contacted by Tagan, they were going to send two of them but wanted both back so I said no. They then said they'd send one and let me keep it so I agreed. I hadn't actually expected the 1100 though, I was figuring something along the lines of a 700W...now I have an 1100W paperweight.

You have a good writing style and presentation to match, Matt.
A PSU that comes with a shipping case like this unit.......It feels like a hook :p

jon, you don't piss yourself because whoever has sent a unit for review. Many review sites are bought by or atleast favor the product reviewed they are so greatful for the privilage
You got cred jon...Keep it :)

Well... even if the two transformers were split into four rails, the SM-268 still can test two +12V rails, so if you made sure that the two rails being loaded by the SM-268 and outputing data to the Oscope were actually on the two seperate transformers, wouldn't that negate this problem?

Not sure - Gabe's article IIRC pointed to the two 12v windings being summed before the output filter. Can't say for sure what's up.

Finally, a good, honest review of the Tagan. Not just, "I put it into my computer, it powered up. 10/10 perfect go buy a tagan now" review.

ps: I'd be willing to take the paperweight off your hands, it was even my birthday yesterday !

It has a problem, when it's plugged into a mobo the 5VSB pulses...so far I can't get in touch with a human at MGE to discuss it.
