View Full Version : What's up with Monarch Computer?

Being one that has worked for several computer resellers, some of whom have struggled (it wasn't my fault!) it's always hurts me to hear about these kinds of things. From [H]ard|OCP: "We then saw constant complaints about Monarch’s customer service in our forums and at that time we decided to end their advertising contract with HardOCP. It just did not feel right telling our readers to rely on Monarch any more. After that we heard rumors of them going bankrupt, but those rumors could not be substantiated. And finally this week Monarch is not answering phones or returning many of their customers’ emails."You can check out the thread in the [H]ard|OCP forums here (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1132728).
What I can tell anyone is that I know they owe some people some money. It doesn't seem that they owe some of their biggest distys, though. Although I can't really confirm that.
As of yet, I haven't seen any news that they've actually filed bankruptcy. But they have shut down their support forums (http://www.monarchcomputer.com/forum/index.php), and as stated over at [H]ard|OCP, they're not answering the phone or responding to emails.
There is an individual floating around different forums claiming that they went by their store near Atlanta and supposedly there was a GOOB sign in the window, but that person is being suspected as a shill.

Don't know what's going on myself, but I can say that there has been more than one issue with Monarch over at OCForums... check the vendor discussion forum.

Yeah... You live near there! :)
OCForums supposedly now has a report of somebody showing up at their location and seeing a closed building.
Some dude running around said they were bought and go system only now.

From everything I've heard, they are currently undergoing a complete "restructuring". I read it on a forum somewhere but I'll have to find the post again.

That's too bad, Monarch had some decent deals, my 3800+ came from them.

Yeah.. but those guys are shills. One of the admins ran his IP and it was in Tennessee, not Georgia. Also, they guy was new to the forums and it was his only post. Very suspect.

Without a doubt Monarch has been experiencing problems but this whole closure thing looks like a bit of internet forum crockery. It would be cool if Spectre would be able to get jonnyguru.com exclusive photos of Monarch's closed offices. Imaging how many people that would bring over here?

Looking at their site I see that most of the stuff on there is the stuff that didn't sell well. Some expensive 2 gig sticks of ram, PC2700 Corsair XMS, etc. The usual selection of stuff is gone. Their systems are gone aside from a few refurbs. The Hornets are gone, they're selling the Hornet cases bare...and their phone numbers are gone from their site as far as ordering and tech support goes, there's just a fax number.
I hate to say it but it looks like they have indeed gone tits up.

Yeah like I said those pictures don't show the big warehouse that is attached to that smaller warehouse (that is converted into their showroom/offices) or the employee parking area.
Jonny if you want me to still run by let me know.

Back from the little trip. There were a couple of cars parked where the employees usually park, and a couple out back. While I was there a guy in a white truck showed up and went inside for a few moments (maybe 5 or so while I was walking around back) and then left. I went to the door and the smae sign was there and they had covered the front door with what looked like an ATI banner. I tried the door and it was locked so I knocked and waited a few minutes but nothing happened. I waited i nteh car a few more and a couple customers came up....but that was about it. I have a few pcitures but they don't show anything radically different other than the cars and trailers still at the warehouse. I only spent about 20 minutes there though because I have sinus infection and it plus the headache and temp are killing me.

Here is somebody who bought from them just now (post #8):

Summary: don't do it. They didn't improve when they went belly up :)

That guy is a troll. He works for a competitor. It is true that Monarch have stiffed many of our members by not refunding their monies or refusing to honor RMA's and even NOT shipping systems for months. But, there are several unscrupulous competitors who troll on various forums, making up bogus claims.
Sometimes, it is hard to sepearate fact from fiction. Take a look at their resellerrating testimonials. :)

The new website doesnt have a forum to post on anymore neither. I was a long time customer of theirs. I never had a problem with them. Granted this last summer I didnt buy anything from them due to other etailers giving a bit lower prices when I put my last rig together. Its a shame what happened to Monarch. They went from one of the best in nation to worse in less than a year. A real shame.

Thankfully i have not done business with Monarch. Although I was tempted many times with their cheaper than average prices, maybe that's why a lot of people got sucker in. These past ratings has gone downhill quite a bit.

Hello All,
First time user of this forum and Monarch.
I placed an order back on 11-4, and have heard nothing from them since I spoke to support person (after being on hold for hours) around Nov 20th.
I sent my brother down to there office today and it was locked up tight.

I'm not sure if it was because of the Holiday, or if they have shut down permanently. There were no GOOB signs, but there was a post office delivery notice, but he couldn't see the date on it. :wall:
We are going to check it out again next week, and I'll post again.
I may just have to dispute my credit card payment.

 What a mess!
Now I think I was lucky! :) I ordered online a Lian Li 1200B Plus on Dec. 1 and my credit card got charged immediately. I had to send them an email inquiry about the order status after the online order status had remained "verify credit" or phrase like that sort for 4 days. I got another auto-reply email for the 2nd inquiry.
So, I called them on Dec. 5. A salesman/customer service man explained that verifying my address and fraud prevention caused the delay. I told him I had been charged for the case and did not undrstand why they needed so much time doing these kind of stuff. The gentleman said he was going to process the order now and shipped it tomorrow and I could receive it 2 days later. At that time, I could hardly believe his promise because of the delay and told him I would cancel the order if I had to wait for another 5 days. He said: "This is a good deal. You got a more than 200$ case for 110 bucks. You're happy, right? "
He contined "I can cancel your order if you like". I replied "go ahead and get it shipped. Thanks a lot!":)
I did get the case on Dec. 7:D Really a nice deal. $132.99 shipped! The same case at the egg costs $245.98 shipped:

sign looks fake. look at the font they have used, look how many exclamation points they use, and notice how it lacks any case numbers or item numbers.
from the way that sign read i was expecting it to end by "pay ur fuckin taxz or we'll stealz yo shit!!!!1!!!"

You obviously haven't been around the big A much...this is a city populated with rednecks that are dealing with rednecks, it's no surprise to me seeing that...what does surprise me is not seeing something along the lines of "Y'all best not be fartin' around or we'll have to haul yer asses inter jail!!!"

I just got off the phone with AMD (RMA'ing the 3800+) and they had no clue Monarch has gone under, I pointed the tech to this thread so he could see it firsthand, needless to say, I think they're a bit alarmed.

AMD's warehouse probably just shipped out several hundred procs to Monarch.
I've seen this happen with trucking companies that are going under. Load up on parts that will never be paid for.
A shame really as we all end up picking-up part of the price.

Not quite, we don't sell directly to resellers; they buy their stuff from distributors.
Oh, hey Matt :)
