Hi, I am a working college student. My job is a Garbage truck driver. eh it pays alright. any who it has it perks. For example, i find stuff. I recently found a Dell Precision Workstation 650. It has all of the major components minus SCSI 68 pin hard drives and also bad power supply. My question is should i put it back where i found it(in the trash) or should i mess around trying to restore it.

Could you provide some more detailed specs of the machine?

Well I don't know.
There's an old Netburst processor in it wich are rather hot and these days not soo fast.
And everything in it is custom so you can't just use a standard ATX PSU...

This is a pretty nice dual xeon capable machine. I would definitely try to mess around with it.

In the first slot it has a Xeon 3.6GHz the second one is empty. it has 1g of ram in it. it has a gel SCSI gel cable for hard drive hook up. Did i mention the 460watt power supply in is gone to crap. I am also having a hard time finding SCSI worth having at affordable price.

Ebay or forums. I know quite a few people at badcaps forums that have tons of scsi stuff.
What is the psu doing? It may be fixed if you are handy with a soldering iron and have some background in electronics.

I went to turn it on to see if it would go to the bios screen. all of sudden it did something that caused my ears to ring.

I have a Dell Precision Workstation 530, x2 Xeno 2.4 or 2.8 GHz, 1GB Rambus (or whatever it is called RAM) I gave £26 for it off of ebay with a 36.g gig 10k SCSI, DVD rom and working fine, its SCSI controller can run up to 15 drives. In fact still had the win 2k server install with all of the Co. info, some people are silly.
I wiped it, but have had no problems getting 68 pin U320 LDV SCSI HDD's for £2 to £10 each depending on size 18 GB are 2~4 quids 36GB £5~£10, 78GB and 15k drives are a bit more. makes a great play box, and in the end I am going to have it doing some more work, it all depends on the heat and power it draws, but great for the price, I could sell the RAM for almost what I gave for it.
I dont know about the 650, but I have seen referb PSU's for mine on ebay from £20'ish.
