View Full Version : Help me decide: Corsair 650TX, OCZ Z650, Nermax ECO80+ 620, OCZ Fatal1ty 700
Hi Everyone.
I'm new here with a question. I'm building a new gaming PC. I got all the parts except for the PSU.
My new PC will have:
Intel Core i5-750
Biostar mobo P55
4GB ddr3 2x2GB ram 1.65v
3 SATA drives
1 Optical
Geforce GTS250
3 120mm Case fans + 1 120mm CPU fan
The list here consist of the price range I'm interested in:
OCZ Z series 650 - $$60 AR,CPN - 80+ Silver, not much info on this
ENermax ECO80+ 620 - $68 AR,CPN - reviewed here
OCZ Fatal1ty 700 - $64 AR - Empervio
Corsair 650TX -$78 AR - Seasonic
Silverstone ST65EF Element - $80 - Seventeam
The price range for these are similar +/-$10 after rebate with the cheapest OCZ Fatal1ty and costliest Silverstone being $20 apart.
They all seems to have good reviews.
Please advise to which one I should pick and why.
Thanks much.

The OCZ Z-Series 650W Unit should be a FSP Epsilon based Design, so it is defenetely an option.
The Corsair TX650 I wouldn't buy, that one is too old and also the OCZ Fatal1ty.
But with the system you have, you really don't need 650W, 400W are more than enough, 500W to be safe.
I used a Phenom 955BE with an Radeon HD4870 with a 400W HEC 400TE...

Thanks for the response. I thought the Epsilon is also an older design.
My current system:
C2D E6600 OC from 2.4 to 2.7
Asus Striker Extreme i680 chipset
Geforce GTS250
3GB DDR2 1x3
5 SATA HDD
1 Optical Drive
4 120mm Fans
500w Thermaltake Purepower 1yr old
System keeps getting shutdown during intense gameplay. I know the Thermaltake is not that good. But I want headroom on the next purchase to keep utilization at low % for best efficiency and in case I upgrade GPU or add HDD.
I'm leaning towards these for price reasons. :)

The OCZ Z series seems most interesting of the 3 due to high efficiency. The Enermax seems safest bet base on OklahomaWolf's review here.

It is.....there is absolutely nothing wrong with the TX650...it is a perfectly good design...and it is a better design than the Epsilon. Just because the Z-Series is efficient, doesn't mean that is better quality. The Impervio is a better design than the Epsilon as well.
Of the ones you listed, I would go for the Fatal1ty or the Enermax.
Although I think they are ugly as sin :p

You're recommending an Epsilon over the TX650? Are you out of your mind?
I agree with HOOfan. The Enermax or Fatality would be the best options from a price/performance point of view.

I'd go for ECO80+.
Thanks for the input everyone. So it looks like either the Fatal1ty 700 or Eco80+ 620 then. I really don't care about looks as it will be in a (no windows) totally enclosed case Antec Sonata II.
I'll wait for the weekends to see if any special deals pop up in the mean time. If nothing else, I'll pull the trigger on either one of these. I guess I'll flip a coin to decide.:D
I went ahead and ordered the Enermax Liberty ECO80+ 620 reviewed here by OklahomaWolf. For $68 after coupon and rebate at ZZF. Now, I have an itch to upgrade my graphic card to either the Radeon 4890 or Geforce GTX 275, or maybe even 2 Geforce GTS250 SLI. I wonder if this PSU will be able to handle it with my system specs here.

A 5850 if you can find one is nearly double the price of a 4890.

Lowest price of a 5850 on Newegg is $310: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048%20106793261%201067949753&name=Radeon%20HD%205850
Lowest price of a 4890 on Newegg is $170 after rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048%20106792627%201067947106&name=Radeon%20HD%204890
So you're right, not double, but a 5850 is 82% more expensive. Which is a pretty big difference.

This is why I'm itching for the upgrade because the price has dropped nicely on these. There are some instance of the 4890 selling for around $150 with rebates which makes it even more tempting to sell my GTS 250 and buy the 4890. While the 5850 is nice and all with low power consumption, the prices is not justified. The other well priced 5xxx series is the 5770 but benchmark shows that it's not much of an upgrade from my current GTS 250. The sad thing is there's nothing in between for AMD.
