Hi guys,

I'm trying to fix one of my Dynalite flash head's fan. It's a 120v model and where it has the two power inputs, they're connected together with a white, square component (see the photo). The text says: "CR .1 + 120 ohm 250AC 8301". I ordered a new fan to replace this one with, and I'm assuming I should also try to replace that part. I tried connecting it directly into AC with a cable and it didn't work, so either the fan or that component is messed up. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I'd say that it's some sort of resistor. Got a DMM? Run a resistance check on it.

I think it *might* be either a X cap or a Y cap of some sort, perhaps .1uf, 250V, 120ohms.

It looks to me like a thermal fuse, like the type you get in standard low power linear plug-in transformers. They're wired in series with the live 240/120AC conductor.
