The Inquirer reports that a system with an Overclocked Kentsfield, dual 8800GTX in SLI does not top 429W

This is a surprise... a good one

What I wonder is the amp consumption. If I am not mistaken, the PSU that they used in there is dual rail, with 15A on each 12V rail

So does each GTX takes no more than about 6A ? What do you think

Also, even if both GTX take 12A, isnt one rail always dedicated to the CPU? If so, theres very little (3A) left for the rest of the system

What do you think?

One rail is always dedicated to the CPU.

Another thing to note is that the PSU they used is actually rated for 18A (CPU) and 22A and is rated at 50C. So it's equivalent to what a lot of companies are selling as 600~700W.

As for the usage, yes the G80 is faster than anything else out of the gate, but it still isn't fully utilized. How would you feel if your PC was working great, you do a DX10 update, update some drivers and then BAM! everything quits working because there's not enough power? ;)
