It looks like OCZ has finished the official page for this product:

http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/power_management/ocz_evostream_power_supply

Tony of OCZ started a threat at XtremeSystems disclosing some early photos and opening up discussion of this product here:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=115921

For the record, the PSU's OEM is "3Y." A company, known primarily for medical and server grade PSU, that the FSP company has a controlling interest in.

Enjoy!

Looks like their picture links (Xtremesystems thread) are dead now, at least they don't work for me anymore :(

After the second day I couldn't see'em,didn't know if it was my browsers or what. Guess by what's being talked about, is that they're much longer than the gxs.

Should prove interesting to see how they perform, correct me guys if I'm wrong, but wasn't the prelim pricing of the units at quite a premium?

Yes. It does seem as if the pics were deleted.

Oddly enough, this would have happened on the XtremeSystems side of things as the pictures were stored on the XtremeSystems forums.

In vBulletin, the IMG tag will link to remote pictures, while thumbnails are uploaded to the server.

Not sure why they would delete the pictures. I would think that would be good traffic (positive) for them unless someone was deep linking. But if that happens, you just ask the OP to host their own pics and use the IMG tag.

Is it mentioned in that thread (I don't have time right now to look myself.)

This was posted at [H] also. Like I said there, I would like it if OCZ could make something under 600W :)

Heck there's a whole line of FSP Green Power units under 600W not seeing much of the North American market (except maybe the ones Zalman is using). All I ask is just that they don't go back to Topower ;)

A friend PM'd me two links:

http://www.ocia.net/reviews/oczevostream/page1.shtml

But neither look under the hood. :(

I'm going crazy waiting for good innards shots... I've never seen the inside of a 3Y.

Well thats typical, I order the Corsair and they release the Evostream for review :(

Oh well that'll be a nice christmas upgrade :) depending of course on a JonnyGURU approval ;)

Dont like the sound (no pun intended) of that 'aggressive' 80mm fan....

looks very nice, but those cables look like they're stiff. This won't be a PSU you'd want to use in a smaller case like an Antec Super Lanboy, which was nightmarish with my 450w Modstream. I'd like to see some more manufacturers use cables like Ultra uses (Flexforce, right?) on their newer Xconnect series.

I just don't like that OCZ thinks that everyone will jump on any 700W they put out without thinking about anything less.

The money is in high-end PSU's for high-end gamers, so that is the focus & is not likely to change. :D

Now if only those good folks posting previews could open one up for us :)

What high-end gamers need 700W? Not many people are running OCed Quad-SLi, a P4 EE, water cooling, etc. I have a hard time believing that OCZ thinks that this is the stereotype gamer.

I think it will look similar to a GXS, but who knows...

Well put. I agree. So, do these Evostream's use RoHS only components?

Yes. Everything from anyone with a decent brand is going to be RoHS. All of the factories have to comply because they're OEM'ing for people that do business in EU and EU REQUIRES RoHS.

Not even close.

Alright, I guess I'm off. Do you know what the difference is? Just curious...

The 3Y built units, unlike the FSP's, have a lot of girth to them. They look a lot like the big Seventeam, Andyson and ATNG server units (the dual 80MM cooled units) on the inside.

Oh, I thought that FSP bought 3Y, then made this unit. Guess that 3Y built it then FSP bought them?

Dude... You ARE confused. :p

3Y is still a separate company with their own engineers, factory, etc.

FSP just purchased a controlling interest. The end result is sort of like what GM is to SAAB.

Ok, I get what you're saying. So this "EvoStream" is completely made by 3Y? Who else does 3Y make supplies for?

jonnyGURU
10-10-2006, 07:16 PM
3Y.

That's it as far as I know. They're a server power supply. Something FSP wanted to get more serious into, so what's better than just aquiring a company that already specializes in it?

dBTelos

Acquiring Zippy :D As if that's possible.

Here's a "preview" of the PSU:

They haven't reviewed it yet, so there's really no "results" or autopsy on this website.

Unless I am missing something (like a brain cell) the suppliers linked to on that page only show the GXS models.........no Evostreams :)

Thanks, I see the review of the Evostreams.
I was thinking that those links to UK suppliers would show Evo's, but only come up with GXS's.
My son is right...........I should be put in a 'home for the bewildered'.........:D

dBTelos

Knowing OCZ it's probably going to be around $120 retail for a 600W version. Maybe with rebates or on newegg could be found for $100. This is just a guess though.
