Scott "could" of ran 20 hard drives or powered 2 rigs with this monster, but
no.
I bet jG's Sunmoon and hotbox would of slapped that bitch around:p

As most of you are aware it is virtually impossible to drive a 1,000 Watt PSU to its maximum load capabilities using a standard test rig even with the number of components we have added to increase power draw. Unfortunately Bjorn3D doesn't presently own an electronic load simulator to drive these devices to their maximum output. Hopefully we'll have one of these devices in the not to distant future. While measurements taken using one of these devices show the true and ultimate capabilities of the power supply being tested, it's not "real world". By this I simply mean other than for bragging rights, why measure something you'll never practically attain?

Then why are you hoping to own one in the future?
Trying to write a "real" review?

Thanks, Baron for that link, I haden't seen it. Sorry for the re-thread.

And I agree with both of your opinions, but with reservations. I can't see how one could load a single gaming box to actually burn 1kw, maybe a server? However, if you subscribe to the theory that having 30-40% reserve capacity is a good thing, then the 1kw. starting point works, because it's certainly possable to put 600+ watts into an Uber 'puter.

As an aside, I for one, sure like to know the ripple and actual wattage a PS provides at va, as per a JG review. However, I'm not convinced that a site shouldn't do any reviews just because they don't have access to the no doubt very expensive equipment that Jonny utilizes. Some use can come from lesser reviews/opinions. I'm sure I've learned *something* from many of them.

Me, Myself and I + MAO, took offense by what was said by Scott about
loadtesters being "only" good for bragging rights.

I am here to say that any goober with a halfassed "realworld" SLI rig and a camera, can pretty much "review" a PSU and give it all the awards he wants, but does
that make me "want" to buy it? Frak no!
I want to see the guts and brand and rateings on the caps, I want to see if
the manufacture is ripping me off for my brand new 750w PSU, thats really
some lowend rebadged 500w Tt. I want to know if my PCP&C Silencer 750
is going to blow up at 50C, or how bad the ripple is on a Epsilon when it's crossloaded on the +5v and +12v. I want to know if my new ST75F is going
to blow up in the hotbox before it hits the magic 750 barrier.

You can't do that type of review "without" a loadtester and a scope
I post these reviews to show the noobs the difference between a PSU review
and a wannabe review;)

But thats just me, a loyal jG fanboi:D

Just my 2 bits worth

The http://www.bjorn3d.com/ site as well as several others pale in comparison to what JonnyGURU does putting a PSU through its paces...

hehehe I loved one line in that review..."To test the machine I turned up the heater in my house to get my office to a nice and toasty 85 F."

:D

Ahhh…I now understand what you meant as per:

Me, Myself and I + MAO, took offense by what was said by Scott about load testers being "only" good for bragging rights.

And I do agree that jG’s SunMoon and hotbox(or similar) are necessary for a true test-to-possible-destruction of a PS. However, I also believe “lesser” reviews can be of use. (If one trusts the reviewer. ) Don’t get me wrong; I know no one from Bjorn3D, hell, I can’t even pronounce it!

Re: O.W.’s recent review of the Ultra ChillTEC unit. Like many/most reviews it could be nit-picked to death for lack of test equipment. I mean there must be a $5000.00 laser thermometer out there that would give precise temps. However, it was my first “look” at a new piece of interesting ‘puter hardware, and that gives me wood. (the review, Wolf, dammit…)

Just mho, and no offence meant to anyone. If taken, chalk it up to English being my second language. I spent my formative years in Ebon, and learnt Ebonics first.

Personally, this unit sounds like the P.S. Holy Grail to me. It’s everything a P.S. should be…and more! I only wish Pcp&c sent each of their supplies to Jonny for an abusive encounter of the best kind. But until that happy day, I shall have to settle. _ReeL

Yep. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. ;) I've been beaten up plenty of times for my reviews. I try not to do the same.

But it's fun to watch CAD go off. :D

I do have to say that the results at Bjorn3D do have me concerned....

He measured a drop in voltage from 12.34V to 11.89V? In one of my reviews, that alone would account for a 4 point penalty (1 point per .1V) in the performance category. If I see more than a .2V drop in voltage, I start losing interest. Yes, it's a 1kW PSU, but a big PSU is engineered to put out big numbers. You shouldn't see an exponential drop in it's voltage regulation. If the unit is touted as a "1kW, 1100W or even 2kW, it needs to maintain regulation across the board.

I can only hope there was just an issue with the reading or a problem with the testing methodology.

Many reviewers just can't hold up to the reviews on this site. Before I found jonnyguru, I thought reviews like the Bjorn3D one were amazing reviews. Now those reviews and others look just ridiculous and pointless. You can see that many of these people have no idea what they are talking about.

They just hook up a multimeter and hope for the best....
