In summary, if you are building a basic or intermediate PC and want a power supply that will do the job and, at the same time, provides decent efficiency, great voltage stability, low ripple and noise levels and protections that work, you can save money by buying Antec Basiq BP500U.

It seems to me that Gabe is a little overzealous when it comes to giving out awards. This PSU is not what I would consider gold-worthy. A decent unit, sure, but nothing special.

Yeah. But at least it didn't go all rippletastic on him. ;P

Gabe said it "looks" like it's built by FSP, yet it looks exactly like that Silverstone ST50F he reviewed.

the only thing missing is "SPI" on the coil pack in the middle of the Basiq.

The two screws securing the heatsink at the back of the unit is a dead give-away for FSP. Travis taught me that ;).

Who doesn't think that 79% efficiency at full load is kickass? ;)

More sites should do like what HardOCP does. Sure there are "awards" but there is also "PASS."

For $60 and 500W I think it kicks ass.

for $60 I'd rather have a seasonic (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151069)

Especially considering the fact that it's 80Plus certified and thus is guaranteed to have better efficiency than the Basiq. Plus, you can get the Bronze-certified 550W Truepower New for just $10 more: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371020

Yeah, I quite like the way they test their PSUs, especially the Hot Box Tests.

The Problem is that you need to have the space for the equipment and the money to buy it...

If you can't do it right, you shouldn't do it at all. Reviews that aren't done properly are effectively useless when it comes to judging a PSU's quality, so there's no point in doing a review altogether if you don't have the equipment you need to do a thorough test.

Well it all fits in one old IBM 48U server rack ;)

Well I agree with you on this one the problem is that there are many guys out there who don't...

The main Problem is IMO the active load...

I'm not saying their testing methodologies. I'm saying that they will award a "Pass" for PSUs which aren't crap and don't fail, but they reserve their better awards to PSUs that really deserve it.
