Lost a triac.

Total blow out. Tripped UPS protection very fast. Didn't sound impressive but smelled quite bad.

The supply was pulled and with it plugged into NOTHING we plugged it in to a 20A 120VAC outlet and it was like lighting a roman candle in a shoebox! Nice blue flame with a lot of 60Hz buzzing going on. Wow. :wall:

RMA time.

It's weird too as the system load was about 375W most of the time and when it went pow the system was booting up Vista64. Can I blame Bill Gates?

I'm going to replace it with a Galaxy 1kW. This is going in a Kentsfield system with 8800GTX's SLI'd.

The supply appears well made. I cannot get a close look as if I break the seal no RMA and I don't want to spend $160 to find out that bad. ;)

EDIT:

LOL at the title under my user name. Funny thing is I had a 3.4GHz prescott micro system with one of those Micro ATX power supplies and it BLEW UP. The fan in the power supply locked hard and the caps just cooked to death. You can always tell a cap blow out by the smell. Smells like a dog food factory.

The Galaxy is 220mm deep, make sure you got room for it. ;)

EDIT: I have seen a number of Libertys posted that went poof!

No problem with depth in this box.

I have some Ablecom triples that do 975W. Those are sick.

Pics of Mopars Mindy with the hoods up, if you would. Your's and those that belong to your mechanicin' kin :) Plus a couple sentences on each. Several here, including me, would have a real interest in what you offer. Post in our OT.
I'm a gear-head and it would be fun talking cars with Minerva aka River Rat.

Nade, run hot near full capacity the Libertys have been known to pop. The 750W Strider jonny tested poped, it might be as simple as that but most I've read about put on a small light show. Minerva's put on a display :D

I have a decently loaded system running on a Liberty 620 and after reading various posts about them BLOWING UP it is concerning and disturbing to say the least.

Think of the man in those commercials screaming "I will NOT pay a lot for this muffler!".

Change that to "I will not have a power supply that blows up!" :D

Seriously folks - what is going on here?

I have no idea Dawn. Might be that the sensor for thermal shut down was not placed well in the Liberty. They get RMAed, so getting one for diagnosis is a problem. I think cases that run high negative pressure are having an impact on PSU life.
If your's pops, send it to OK Wolf for a look-see ;)

There have been several Libertys poping posted at Anand's, as well as two pcp&c 510 Turbos. Stuff happens!
