it was used in HP, Gateway and Alienware computers. Probably not a bad deal, but good luck finding any warranty support for it.

yeah, I was aware that these units are out of a most likely HP computers (we don't have here alienware or gateway) as they come without any box or accessories.
I was curious about whether it is a solid unit or not?

HiPro stuff is decent. Probably worth 40 bucks anyway.
Jonny reviewed a Hipro-based Cooler Master a while ago, it did fairly well. It doesn't show up in a search of reviews though. (paging Tazz)

HiPro is a good manufacturer. But you'd better make sure these units are genuine and have warranty. Another important thing is that it's likely an EPS12V design whose multi-12V-rail configuration is ... not so SLI-friendly.

I don't know much but he's making big money on them even with selling the psu's for about 40 usd.
And since they are so cheap, most people who buy it have low-end systems. Not even a single 4850 not to mention SLI or CF.
Just wanted to be sure I can recommend it for low-budget users.

Why they're sold so cheap is beyond me.
