The more I read about this unit the more I like it and the use of the heat pipe in a PSU. I like this approch better than what MGE offered. Just my opinion but the KISS principle works for me ;)

Do you guys think slapping an 80mm over the heatsink a-la CPU HSF style (in intake mode if the 120 mm is an exhaust) would be a good idea?

In this picture the toroid is only half wound. Is this common?

Don't know about winding toroidal coils.

Look at the open pics again. You will see that much of the discharge air off the 120 is directed at the fins of the heat pipe by the two tall sinks. It kinda boxes in the air and funnels it right to that area. Simple and sweet.
