My sister had gotten one of these dirt cheap i-rocks (http://www.i-rocks.com/Product_detail.aspx?CLASS_ID=1038&PRODUCT_ID=1125) Superman Returns mice a while back to use with her laptop (silver, thank God). Not a bad mouse, actually, but it had one problem; the browser buttons were reversed. The rear button was forward, the front button was back. I used X-Mouse to fix that via software, but I got tired of that, since the software was a bit buggy.

Last night, I decided to try to fix it, so I opened it up, and took a look at the board the side buttons were on. It was easy to see that just swapping the top two of the three wires leading from it to the main board would (read:should) fix it, so I broke out the iron and tried it. A bit smaller soldering than I was used to, so I had to do a little clean-up, but it works fine now.

I know a lot of people get these i-rocks mice because they are cheap, and I've heard that it's not a problem only found in the Superman Returns mice, so I thought I'd share my fix for it.

Well, it's survived 24 hours, so I'd say I didn't lose all of my soldering skills in the 6 or so years I hadn't done any (electrical) soldering. Started up again a few months ago with the rear AC fix on my van from here (http://home.earthlink.net/~vqfaq/). Nothing difficult for those who solder frequently, but meh, I'm happy they both work.
