Hello all, 1st post and i'm in need of help so i'm asking 2 questions.
Can you transfer the insides of a PSU into another?
I know the capacitors inside still hold a charge -- so if I took it to someone who knows what they're doing, can it be done? (say a TV repair shop...)
Anyone know of a site that lists dimensions of PSU's. I'm in need of a unit a little smaller than standard (smaller than 4.25" x 5.5").
I'm actually trying to replace a PSU that had a proprietary mounting bracket so if I can get a positive answer to either of the above questions I should be ok.
Thanks for reading my first post.

As long as the PCB mounting standoffs are the same it's possible.

Well, you can manipulate the standoff base on the new PSU case, but first, the implanted PSU PCB size/form factor must fit within that particular case. But decent electricity knowledge and good craftmanship is a must IMHO.
Yeah, I definitely would think twice about doing it myself. The problem is --- the power supply that I have, and the ones I find online are all 6" wide (see the pic on my first post, as i'm not sure if that is the width, length, or height) when I need the pcb size to be less than 5.5 to fit inside.
Think of a normal case and PSU sitting "flush against the top and back of the case. Now rotate the psu 90 degrees so that it is orientated as it is on the pic on my 1st post.
Any help on the second question. Would I be alright if I find a 450 watt mATX pse? The one that failed was a delta brand from a sony, max output was 366w. I'm still looking around for one, I think I can bypass the mounting hardware by screwing into the mess on the back of the case.

it might be easier if you bought a cheap ATX case and a decent ATX PSU.
Thanks for all the replies guys. I wish it were easier to buy a case and PSU but am not sure if I could get that to work. This thing has a WC radiator where a PSU would normally go.
It looks like I found a parts warehouse where I can buy a replacement. I hate to buy a $140 PSU that will probably fail again but I think that is my best best.
Thanks again, this is a really cool forum
