What is the Smart Protection connector for?
I did read the manual and Jonny's great review but still have no idea about how it is supposed to be used.

"Future use" I guess. I never found a place to stick it. ;)

I feel much better now that a PSU guru cannot find a use for it either.;)

Sorry to dig this old thread up:)
However, my PSU is starting showing its age. My computer cannot boot without turn on and off the power switch many times. I think the big capacitor inside the PSU is drying up again as I experienced before with other PSUs.
I need some advice for the replacement. Here is my restrictions:
1. must be modular so that I can re-use the cables without touching the cable connection on the motherboard side.
2. max power is not a real problem for me. Anything over 500w should be fine.
3. realiable and not expensive !:p
Thanks!

"so that I can re-use the cables without touching the cable connection on the motherboard side."
You mean you would need a PSU which is compatible with the cables from your old psu?

to further what smirnoff is getting at:
that ain't going to happen unless you get another Sunbeam NUUO 550w.
re using modular cables from one PSU to another probably isn't a good idea

Mmh, yep. And what is the reason you can't detach the cables from the motherboard? Are they hard to reach or stuck or something?

:)
Lazyness is the only reason as far as I can see here. :p
The PSU is in the botom cage of a Lian-Li BX style full tower.
So, if I can re-use those cables, it is going to be an esay swap.
I think those cables are interchageable or stanndard since PSU manufactures are buying cables but not making cables.
Thanks a lot for everyboy's input.

laziness could cost you the rest of your system, so don't say we didn't warn you.

it looks to have had some issues with some. and some issues with Asus mobo's for some reason. i don't know if they have been resolved. big 5 year warranty, though. and the price can't be beat for a maker with a reputation for quality
although i wouldn't recommend using your old cables with it
