Corsair has put together a small survey of 10 questions relating to what users want and demand in a quality power supply. Please take just a moment to complete the survey. We appreciate your time and value your input as the PSUs are built for you.

OK, I put this survey in some of our forums and I receive a question: why not under 500W for next PSU?
In fact some 300W PSU's would be interesting for HT style PC's.

Well i found it kind of stupid (the 1 to 5 thing) example i had quiet fan on 2 cause 4 and 3 were taken, Either way as long as corsair keeps pumping out great power supplies and a good price i'll keep buying them.

Sales of branded high quality <400W PSUs are almost non-existent. The vast majority of system builders believe they need more power than that, and you can build a 400W for almost the same cost of a 300W or a 250W.

Also, most people buying 250-300W units are buying the cheapest thing possible - some $10 PSU from VagueName Tech.

For example, our CX400 was originally going to be a CX350.

But upon looking into it, we found that making a good quality 350W product costs just about the same as making a good quality 400W product. (the price ramps up noticeably when going to 450 or 500 though).

Fair enough. Thanks for explanation.

I doubt it's economically sound, but I'd like to see a decent microATX unit, exactly for the same reason, the HTPC crowd.

Same here. I have a PC that is currently housed in a case made of LEGOs because I don't have a PSU that would fit in the original case, and the ones that are out there I wouldn't trust.

Corsair I think all you really need to do is just keep doing what you have been doing.

About the only complaints I hear about Corsair's lineup are "Why is there no HX750?" and "Why don't they have something in the 850W range, preferably modular?" If you guys could put out a hx750/800 that is priced better than the DA750 I think you would have a winner. That segment is awfully sparse when you need an affordable ~750W modular PSU that can handle an OCed quad and 2 4870/gtx260.

We're not going backwards, that's for sure. We just want to get an idea of the best way to go forwards.

If you want to make advancements it makes sense to find out what people really want.

I just want to add i think the CX400 was a good idea, even the novice builders now are beginning to place more value on the PSU nowdays but i felt that the VX450 was still not cheap enough to be in an entry level gaming build.

Though as you mention, branding quality PSUs with low wattage (such as 400W even though it is) seems to hurt it as less knowledgeable buyers look for wattage ratings since product box specifications for hardware is still asking for "xxx watts PSU").

I think that if you could certify a PSU to say "HD4870" ready (or show a typical system spec the PSU can handle on the back of the box) for example it would take emphasis away from the wattage rating. But obviously i dont know the legal issues of doing such a thing.

ditto!

and thanks for asking for input cosair! it's nice when companies ask what we want instead of just giving us what we think we need!

I just wish the CX400 had more availability here in europe: I have an old computer that needs a cheap and good PSU.

They already have 3 units under 500W..and under $90. The market segment hole in Corsair's lineup is between 750W-1000W. Also between 650W and 1000W for modular.

I think I would also like to see some staid cases desgined around these power supplies.

Keep your eyes peeled on the first, as to the second, I think that'd be fun to design, for sure.

A lot of criteria listed in the survey was hard to answer because I value so many points equally : (

For example, I want the power supply to perform well. Aesthetics are a second. And when I make a buying decision, I have already research it thoroughly in all aspects.
