View Full Version : What's in the works for November

November's schedule (and why I'm not calling PCP&C this month):
The EvoStream 600W should be done this week.
I'm testing an Antec NeoPower and FSP Epsilon for the "before" of a "before and after recap" article OKW is going to be doing.
I have one of the new Zalman Heat Pipe PSU's on the way (hopefully.)
I'm going to be load testing a 2theMax for another website.
I will be trying to kick off the twice-monthly "Trade In Your Crap" contest where I swap someone's came-with-the-case PSU for something quality. All crappy power supplies collected will be put into a big round up which should be the biggest traffic draw in jonnyGURU history. :D
But before that gets done, I have to implement navigation for the reviews db and a search site function. The about us page should go up this weekend so people know how to contact to bitch out.

Looking good! Some how, I believe, this would be the most frequented section of the forums. ;)

Can't wait to see how the Zippy units do. Also can't wait to see if the RMA replacement on that Antec can run for five minutes loaded down in the hot box ;)

I'm really looking forward to the Antec Trio review.

jonny, i might get another zippy 700w also. Only PS to date i have seen with rubycon caps on the primary side, strange eh!
It is very odd that the 700w and the 850w zippys dont share a common design platform.

Not sure how it compares to the Coolmax Greenpower :)
Actually, i'm a big fan of the flat black, sleeved, and no frills no gimmicks. Just because, My case doesn't have a window, and even if it did, I want people to see that I'm using a real supply of quality, not an over-blinged piece of crap.

Jonny, I saw a few people clamouring for a PCP&C review. Do you want me to send over the old Turbocool 510?

This is actually that retro stamped steel look... you know, the kind that was on powersupplies for the first 20 years of computing.
but yah, definitely function first here... i dont care if it was puke yellow... if it performed the best i'd have it :)

A guy from [H] is sending me hiw old PCP&C 510. So we can at least see what it can do in the box.

Yeah, but you can have it both ways. It will cost more over all, but it's possible.

yah, those silverstones are lookin good with the modular cables!
How is the zippy power supply reviews coming along? Heh, I know you like that 60A single 12V rail.

The Antec Trio 650W RMA came in!
Hopefully I can have the backend done so I can put the ST75F and Trio reviews up in "the new format." ;)

5 to 1 odds here in favor of:p

Definatly, they're beautiful. I mean, i love the look of cables everywhere with nowhere to hide them, the flashing and glowing lights 2 feet from my head.. It's sublime.

Nah, I don't like the grey. Grey is usually reserved for generics.

Well... the second one blew up. Same load. Same length of time.
Temps hit 50, I was just about to start writing down voltages, there was a pop and it was dead.

Dang! Was the 50C hot box temp or PSU exhaust temp?
Same question for the ST75F. Where was the 60C present...In the hot box or exhaust? 50+C in the hot box is HOT man!
NOTE: Kevin has been busy all day, so return call yet. Tt Tech is registered over at Anand's but seldom posts.

Thank God I didn't put Galvo upto a bet! :D
So, Johnny what if the company claims that you were not testing it at the rated temprature and so failure was a result of pushing it out-of-spec? What temp is this unit specced at? Any burn marks? :D

The 50C of the Antec and 60C of the Silverstone was exhaust temperature.

Super Nade, here's the spec sheet http://www.antec.com/specs/TP3_550_spe.html
They have it rated MTBF 80k hours at 50C...Kripes! That's a misprint.
Operating temp is 0~50C. Some lower tier PSUs use caps only rated down to 10C. Generally better caps are rated to stay in spec at 0C.
At least Antec seems to be willing to work with you jonny. :)
Your doing thier QC/R&D for them.
jonnyGURU
10-18-2006, 07:38 PM
Yeah. I'll add them to the list with everyone else.
I'm thinking one day this might actually pay off or something.

Galvo, from the page you linked:
Non-Operating Vibration
Operating: 10-300 Hz, 0.5G, 3 axes, 1 hr. ea. axis
Non-operating: 10-300 Hz, 2.0G, 3 axes, 1 hr. ea. axis
Now this is interesting. I've never seen these parameters before. Why are these specified?
GalvanizedYankee
10-18-2006, 08:58 PM
Your the one in The Dept.of Physics, not me lol
So you tell me. G ratings on 3 axes? Might be why they use all that white silly-cone goop. *shrugs shoulders*
Super Nade
10-18-2006, 09:11 PM
I understand the mechanical specs, which are as the heading says ratings for accoustical vibration and the frequencies this unit can withstand/possibly damp out. What I'm interested is, if this is a meaure for structural integrity of the unit or if it has electrical consequences (i.e accouto-electric coupling resulting in electrical noise). :)
Silly-cone goop eh? Is that the same stuff used in implants? :D
