I looked a bit more closely at my BA7900 speaker set that was among the dead list from the incident listed here (http://jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4919). As you can see here (http://support.gateway.com/s/sound/bostonac/7004246/7004246su20.shtml), the amp has a resettable fuse. Now, when I plug it in, it acts like it wants to start, but then dies.
I pulled the panel and looked inside to see if there were any overtly blown components (as in some other things killed by the lighting strike), and couldn't find anything with visible scorching or even any darkening to the soldering, so I tried to power it up again, and saw a tiny arc inside the fuse before it cut out again.
So, I guess my question is, is there a chance just the fuse was blown? I really liked these speakers (the fact that I got them for $50 does factor in, but I mean, the closest things on the market now to them are the Z-5300e, and then have 10% THD vs the BA7900's 2%, not to mention the BA7900 has a more powerful sub), so if there is a chance of resurrecting them, I'd like to give it a shot.
