after reading and rereading jonny's review on the hx620w, i pulled the trigger. now i'm having second thoughts because i plan on an 8800gtx in the near future.

how are the rails split up on the 620w? is it the same as the hx520w? need some help. thanks for the help and the highly detailed reviews jonny.

EDIT: nvm. rails are combinable.. i wish corsair had a 700w modular. that would get my money.

They aren't split up. Just one, big, 50a rail.

You will do fine with the 8800gtx in your future. Even 8800GTX sli, with 2 more pci-e adaptors.

Is a single 54A 12v rail better than 3 12v rails 18A each?

I wonder how will this PSU be enough for 2 8800GTX? how much wattage and amps does each card uses? 54A does not sound much for 2 hungry 8800 GTX cards? wattage and amp consumption of the card will shed light on wether this PSU will be enough for 2

Also how where will 2 more PCIE connectors be connected to? The PSU only has place for 2 PCIE connectors?

If this PSU is single rail, why does it say triple rail on Corsair site?

Thanks for the answers

short answer...Yes

Total system power draw for 8800GTX SLI was measured at about 520w while benchmarking and 480w while gaming here: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2870&p=1

Also how where will 2 more PCIE connectors be connected to? The PSU only has place for 2 PCIE connectors?
It's a single rail unit. Connect them wherever it's convenient.

lol welllll because they are pretty much free to make any claim they want and consumers are generally ignorant is one explanation. Corsair is probably thinking we went to a lot of trouble to over-hype multiple 12v rails and now doesn't want to risk losing customers who bought into the hype. It's a bit of a no harm no foul situation though.

Any idea on amp draw? its kinda important too

About the PCIE connectors, each GTX is using 2 PCIE connectors, and the PSU comes with only 2, and there is only a place to connect 2 on the PSU, I dont understand how you can connect 2 more?

I'd estimate that each 8800GTX draws about 15-16A of 12v current. Bear in mind though that future apps that utilize DX10 to it's full potential could conceivably push that an amp or two higher.

You're going to need a couple of molex to PCI-E adapters or get a couple of the plugs and wire your own into any 12v and grounds. You want those to be the first or second connector in the run for maximum amperage.
