View Full Version : Need a new Power supply.
I bought a Enhance ENP-5150GH 500W April 2007 for my box (thanks for the recommendation then, it works very well), I do mostly video editing and the box is on nearly 7/24, the Enchance work very well...lately I bought a computer for my daughter it is a:
Intel E8400 cpu
4 Gig of ram
ATI 3850 video card
1 hard drive
1 DVD burner
1 wireless PCI network card
Gigabyte P35 motherboard
this box came with a HEC Orion 585W cheap power supply and I am thinking of replacing it with my Enhance.
Now my box is
Intel Q6600
4 Gig of ram
ATI 4670 video card
4 hard drives
2 DVD burner
1 wireless PCI network card
1 PCI SCSI card for my scanner
1 Firewire SCSI card
Gigabyte P35 motherboard
The Enhance still available at my usual store http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=666615989&vpn=ENP%2D5150GH&manufacture=Enhance but about $30 more expensive than when I bought mine, I am thinking of something same or better quality at less than CAD$100
Can anyone recommend, tia.

That enhance is a good unit, but, If I'm not mistaken, it's an old design, I can't even find it on their website.
Other choices would be Corsair VX550 (http://jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=62)
Great performance, excelent build quality, 5 year warranty and fully sleeved cables.
Antec EA650W (http://jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story4&reid=110)
Very good performance, 3 year warranty, partially sleeved cables.
If you click the link on my 1st post, you'll see it......the two PSU that you recommended are actually cheaper than the Enhance,,,anyway...the Corsair after rebate is about $5 more expensive than the Antec. I don't really care about watt, I need a PSU as solid or better than my Enhance, I need it to be on almost 7/24...which? Looks like the Corsair is better but is it as good as the Enhance? thanks.

Sorry, I meant the Enhance Website. I finaly found it, it was hidden around there somewhere.
If I'm not mistaken, it's identical to the Silverstone Element 500W (http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=13)
Damn, I forgot what great PSU the Silverstone was, should have gotten one when I had the change.
I guess it between the Corsair and the Enhance, personally I would choose the Corsair for running it 7/24.

The ENP-5150GH is just as good as the Corsair VX550 other than being 50W less. But it's certainly not worth MORE money. That price is very inflated. You should be able to get an Enhance 550W for that kind of money.
The Enhance 550 is CAD$107.58 here http://www.bestdirect.ca/products/166285/Enhance_Electronics/ENS_0555_G/ which is $30 more than the Cosair VX550 after rebate, Unlike the States, PC parts prices here is usually more expensive.
Is Enhance better than Corsair? if that is the case, I don't mind getting Enhance.
An alternative is I keep the Enhance 500 and buy another PSU for my daughter...anything that suit her computer and is not expensive...thanks.
I have these two in mind... both under $50 here ($45)
Seasonic SS-400ET 400W
Cooler Master eXtreme Power 500W

Neo Power 500w. its modular if you like that. really the only advantage over the pc power and cooling if you want it. fairly reasonably priced imo
seems to have issues. especially with some asus mobos
I am gearing towards the Seasonic SS-400ET 400W if it is good enough for my daughter's computer. any idea?

i think thats fine for your daughters computer, sure. i was looking at the other with the four HD's...
but that should be fine
you don't plan on sticking a different vid card in soon, right? because if so (with any other upgrades) you may want a little more juice. but otherwise it looks solid
EDIT: i looked up the specs. its good to go, yeah. and it actually cost more here at newegg america. $62 american

No. It's only about the same. That's why I wouldn't pay MORE for the Enhance.
If you can get the Seasonic for that cheap, get the Seasonic.
Thanks guru, so it is the Seasonic then, btw it is an OEM , no box and power cable but I guess it is the same unit as the retail box.
Boinkers, not a game player myself and my daughter is not into those games that demand a lot of gpu power.

I'd get the corsair for your PC.
Decent price, quiet, excellent quality, long warranty, nice support, sleeved cables...
EDIT: the seasonic is very nice too if you want to save money.

boinkers,
giving a Canadian links to Newegg products is pointless since newegg doesn't ship to Canada. It's really not even useful as a general guide since the pricing tends to be radically different.

cool, newegg is in canada now. I'm going to have to pay attention to the links from now on.
Just found out the Corsair TX750W is on sale with rebate, care to comment on this, TX better than VX? tia

TX is merely the higher power non-modular PSUs. VX are the lower powered non-modular PSUs. HX are modular. TX are not better quality wise than VX, merely rated for higher output.
One last question, if you look at my setup at post #1 (1st post of this thread) if I add a 640GB or 1TB hard drive to my computer will my Enhance 500W still enough? tia
