Wow... just wow... I have been reading the forum for a few hours now... My head is spinning from all of the info... more than I ever thought there would be about PSUs...

I am planning/purchasing components for my next computer and need some help/advice now that I see that PSU selectionis just as important as CPU. Let me start by saying that I do NO gaming... SO I have no need for SLI/Crossfire support. I do, however, do have a hobby of video editing. Editing is killing my current set up as it is now over four years old (and wasn't "high end" at that time). My plans go like this:

Asus P5B-E mobo
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (for the 4mb memory on board)
2 gigs of PC5300 ram (undecided... hd priced out Patriot's PDC22G5300LLK)
BFG Technologies 7600GT 256mb video card
1 - Seagate 7200.10 400GB HD (to start; will add more as I need it; max of three drives))
Antec Nine Hundred case (already purchased)
Antec NeoHE 550W PSU (already purchased)
Win XP SP2 home (to upgrade to Vista at some point in the future)

I had set my pricepoint for $1000 and am very close to that figure. I have read some conflicting things about the Antec power supplies and would like some advice while I can still return the NeoHE that I bought.

1. Should I return it?
2. What "size" PSU am I really going to need? Some of the 650+ get expensive real quick... I would hate to spend tons more than I need to on the PSU when the $$$ could go else where in the build... at the same time, I don't want to buy a PSU now for $XXX only to have it not be enough once I add a couple of hard drives and have to spend $XXX more to fix the problem I could have addressed from the start.

This will be my second computer to buld for myself (I have done many for other people... but none for much more than surfing and such)... I wouldl ike it to be decently "future proof" and a good performer. This is going to be a huge leap forward from my little 1.8A P4... :)

Thanks for any/all input you can give me.

A good brand 400-430W PSU it's plenty for your setup. If you heavily OC your CPU maybe a 500W just to have headroom.
Your Antec NeoHE 550 should be fine (make sure that's rev. A4 to be without problems).

Your NeoHE should be fine for that rig. You already have it, so it's not worth the hassle of a return. ;)
