Some closer up shots of the dual nForce 680a motherboard featuring two 1207-pin Socket F's, four PCI-e 16x slots and 12 SATA ports. The CPU's are FX74's (3GHz dual cores)

The pic says NF590 not NF680i.

The pic says NF590 not NF680i.
Point? ;) It's still called 680a. :D
Each of the chips is actually an nForce 590 SLI chip with an extra connection so that they can interface together.

It has gotten my interest.

Houston... we have a problem...
The first photo is the brand new Corsair Dominator DDR2 8500. It's one of only three or four brands of RAM certified for the Quad Father.
No doubt the RAM is beautiful, but I had already planned on using these two copper Ultra X-Winds (second photo.)
I figured I'd give it a shot (third photo) but it looks like it's just not going to work (fourth photo.)
I didn't even try to install RAM into the other two banks because the other CPU socket is even closer to the RAM than this one!
So it look like I need either a smaller CPU HSF or RAM that's not as tall! :D

I can't beleive they didn't stagger the sockets:mad:
Damn.
That dominator does look mighty impressive though.

IS this a new review for you Jonny???? :o

Maybe. Got to get thing assembled first! :)
Something I did find out... This thing DOES NOT like PSU's where the 8-pin is on the same +12V rail. Not that many are, because ATX12V and SSI state that (if you're even adhering to the 240VA OCP spec) your 4 +12V wires on the 8-pin EPS+12V connector should be on two rails and nothing else should be on these rails, there have been instances where PSU's have tripped during boot up or when firing up benchmarks because the OCP on the CPU rail has been tripped!

Looking at the HSF pics, have you considered just breaking out the Dremel and massaging the HSF's? I'd just shave the fins that are in the way of the ram down to where it wasn't interfering and call it a day. It doesn't look like it'd take much to clear things up on that but the PSU issue sounds bad. Maybe a modified PSU is in order...solder all the 12V rails together perhaps.

I don't think I'll have an issue w/ the PSU because I'm using a 1kW with 70A on the 12V rail.
But I'll let you know.
As for the RAM, I've got some lower profile PC2-8500 RAM that fits like a glove. Just need to put heatspreaders on it (it's OEM ram.)
The Corsair will go in the 680i builds. :D

OT, I accidentally put 70A on the Duro the other day, the OCP never kicked in :O

"accidently." ;)
What funny is there's still some rail separation in that Duro 900. If you open up an Ultra X-Pro 750W, you see the exact same thing but jumpers soldered across the +12V rails on the back side of the PCB. :o

What PSU are you using exactly? And where are you getting this nice kit so early? It is nowhere to be found online!

I'd like to see that actually, is it Andyson or Seventeam? And I only had 12V1 and 12V2 so the current must've been feeding back through the chokes I showed you all those moons ago.

The Duro 900 is a SevenTeam ST750EAJ. You know that. ;) The X-Pro 750W is the same thing just with the single 12V rail.
