VLC for most non-DVD videos, Windows Media Center (Vista Home Premium) with Nvidia Purevideo for DVDs, Winamp for audio. Any videos that won't play in the above, Media Player Classic, although VLC does a damn good job of playing most anything.

Somehow the search for a good media player has always been there in my mind. Never quite preferred the default WMP and have tried so many of them in the course of my computing. VLC, DivX Real but somehow I seem to lack a compact one, any suggestions! Currently I am playing the default Nero Showtime.

Not sure how much smaller than that you are going to get.

How about Portable VLC (http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/vlc_portable)? I've used it a few times, works great.

WMP for the most part, I tried MP Classic for DVD's but didn't care for the image quality, so I use WMP running the PowerDVD XP codecs. WMP for CD ripping as well.

for audio I use the newest edition of winamp.

I use WMP with k-lite mega code pack, quicktime lite alternative, and real lite alternative. Divx webplayer, Adobe shockwave, and Adobe Flash for web movies.

P.S. I finally joined the Vista crowd last week and much prefer XP over it.

An update to that, I now use the dreaded PowerDVD for DVDs and Blu-Rays, because the OEM version that came with my drive is a 6 channel version, and it supports AVIVO, and DTS.

Foobar2000 for audio, Media Player Classic Home Cinema (MPC-HC) for video, VLC for the rare video that won't play with the stuff embedded inside MPC-HC

No need for additional codecs packs and crap. The only thing I probably ever install would be AC3Filter (better support for digital out and channel mapping, equalizer etc) and RealAlternative (for rm videos)
