I just noticed a little problem on my corsair hx620. Like reccomended when i change any piece of hardware i first switch the power supply switch to 0 then i unplug the power cord from behind the power supply.
I was just doing this to change my audio card and i noticed that when i plugged in the cord back behind the power supply with the switch still on 0 there was a lot of electrical static noise coming from it. First i tough it was just the noise that the cord was making wile going back into the socket , so i tested it out by unplugging the cord from the wall and it stopped doing it =/ I have tryed this on my OCS 700w and enermax and both of them dont make this electrical noises when plugging the cord back in.
should i worry about this?

ps hope u can understand =) my english is not to good

dont be worried! it is just a electrical commutation coused sparking. i guess it is not so good, if switch is at position 1, coz commutations current is even 7 times larger.

It happens. I've had it happen plenty of times to me... My question is, and Jonny could probably answer this... Is the power switch on the primary side of the transformer, or is it on the secondary side? If it's on the secondary side, then the primary is always active, even with the switch off, so you have a completed circuit.

Primary. The AC input actually goes straight to the switch. Then from the switch to the PSU PCB.

Hmmm... With an open circuit, I wonder what's up that sometimes the plugs spark. Carbon from arcing?

Depends on the design. Some PSU's will have a cap before the switch.

How's that cap connected? Between the two AC lines? From one or both to ground? In guitar amps, a cap wired from one AC line to ground is typically known as "the cap of death." However, this was done back in the days before we had the third pin for grounding. :)

Between hot and neutral. So I can there being a spark with that charging. To ground? No. Earth ground in a PSU just goes to the housing.

Should be connected between line and neutral on the input - it's usually there for EMI filtering.
