What do you guys think about the ENERMAX Galaxy EGA850EWL as opposed to the Silverstone 850?

I am having problems with my Silverstone 850's. I have recently had three of them (one being a replacement directly from Silverstone) and they are all low on the rails (12 volt rail is 11.89, 5 volt rail is 4.89, etc...) all with no load completely seperate from the system. Results are from Digital multimeter. Bios shows same results. Other power supplies including one of my Rosewill 550's shows perfection on the rails.

I know some may say "don't worry about it, its no big deal, they are still within spec" but I don't agree. I want my $300 power supplies to be at or above 12 and 5 volts.

SO.... Do you think the Enermax 850 is basically equivalent or better?

Thanks

Nope... to do better than the Etasis built ST85ZF, you'd have two clear options - Zippy and PC P&C Turbocool. Maybe the Olympus 1kW.

As far as the voltage readings go, I've already said pretty much all I'm going to say on that subject :p

Why don't you think that the Enermax 850 is as good?

Not quite as well built, and ripple gets a bit high when crossloaded. Not too big a deal, since it's not likely to be crossloaded, but I've always gone for build quality first.

Gotchya. Also wolf, check out my response in my Silverstone thread in XtremeSystems. Seems I was the victim of a low quality multimeter :wall:

Just wanted to add in your first post "at or above 12 and 5 volts"
I just want to add that too much voltage is as bad as too little, but if it's within the spec's then it's fine, I can appreciate that the base figure is 12v & 5v but as long as they are within spec and more importantly hold stable under duress then all is well.
