My Silencer 750 arrived today, and as I was looking it over, I noticed that it has a connection missing on the 24 pin. If you hold the connector so the clip is on top, it's the fifth pin from the right on the top row. According to the manual, this should be a white wire for the -5v. However I seem to remember reading somewhere that -5v isn't really used in modern systems.
Is this something I should be concerned with?
Either way, I can't test it for a while because the motherboard cables are too short, so I need to buy some extensions
only thing I have read is some DFI MB's still need the -5v rail ..but you should be fine with some extensions

I dislike extensions...but if you have too, you got two.
IIRC it's about 10 pages into the 45 page PDF at http://www.formfactors.org/
The revision of June 05(i think) deleted/dropped the -5 rail. It only served ISA slots and some of the older sound cards. I have no idea about DFI mainboard application.
The -12 line is soon to go.

Yeah as others have said the -5v is history as of ATX12v2.0. As for boards that still require the only ones I know of off the top of my head are the MSI boards with onboard Creative Sound. I have one here at the house and it most certainly needs the -5v to get sound ;)

I was wrong it is the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum that needed the -5v ...sorry for any confusion

Well I've got three extensions on the way, according to the performance pcs they'll be here in ~3 days, but we'll see as lately I've had a few things "disappear" while under USPS care :wall:

Well I have it up and running now, and I gotta say, I don't think it's all that much quieter than the Zippy...

 Sorry about that but the old Silencers weren't that quite either...I was thinking that now that Seasonic was making them they might be...guess not.

Ah well, all thing considered I do like the Silencer better. Guess I should've gone for the Seasonic, though.
