Hey guys, hope your all doing well, what with the flu going around (I'm sick with it). I have been wanting to ask a question:

How good are the various supplies with the OCZ label? Are they all made by FSP, or just some of them?

How good is This Supply Here:

The 3Y built ones (Evostream and Proxstream) are very good but very loud, and the FSP built ones are various versions of the Epsilon platform I really don't care for.

OCZ PSU's are not bad, but the FSP built PSU's suffer from a flu just like you, the flu of high ripple. The FSP built PSU's are based on Epsilon

The OEM's are:
StealthXStream - FSP (Epsilon)
ProxVStream Y3, (also found with FSP UL number), non Epsilon based platform
ModXStream 780W/900W FSP (Epsilon)
Other ModStream - Topower
GameXStream - FSP (Epsilon)
EvoStream - Y3

The particular unit you ask about is an Epsilon based unit, i.e. ripple warning.

ugh at the expense of going off topic here I'm curious about something. As Stefan555 said the ProXStream label does have the FSP UL number on it. I seem to recall them having the 3Y number when they first came out though...but maybe I'm not remembering correctly. Now I know that FSP and 3Y are closely affiliated but I'm just trying to decide if it would be most accurate to call the ProXStream an FSP build or a 3Y build.

On the one hand the UL number on the label is hard to ignore (although it's not uncommon for UL labels to point at a brand name rather than an OEM).

On the other hand it doesn't look like any other model I've seen built under the FSP name. The exterior and the stats look pretty much identical to a 3Y YM-8102ACR...also the label gives a part number of CP-1262R2 and 3Y has some other units with a CP prefix and R2 suffix.

So what do ya'll think? FSP or 3Y? Or should I just compromise and call it a Plotech based on the UL number on the PCB? ;)

This OCZ 500W is a FSP GLN (example, Be Quiet! Straight Power is little modifed GLN).

It's 3Y.

But 3y = FSP

Check this out:

"Some common names and aliases for OEMs"
FSP Fortron/Source, Sparkle (Sparkle was formerly independent), Powertech; controlling interest in 3Y

And 3Y's site:

"FSP group" :)

FSP owns controlling interest in 3Y - not quite the same thing as 3Y being a subsidiary. It's like Sony's relationship with Aiwa.

Along those lines a Mazda is a Ford.

Or not.
