Hi I'm a high school student on a tight budget looking for a power supply. I just recently bought a GeForce 8600 GTS graphics card for my Dell Vostro 200 to find that the power supply is insufficient. My computer's specs are:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 @ 2.33GHz Processor
A Foxconn G33M motherboard
SATA powered 16X DVD+/-RW Drive
SATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
8600 GTS Graphics card
I will most likely upgrade with another hard drive (SATA) at some point. I don't know much about power supplies, but my brother found some that he thought were good and I was wondering if you agreed with him that they were good for a high schooler on a tight budget. He said I should ask you about these. Or if you have any better suggestions. Thanks. :)
Seasonic ATX 12V / EPS 12V 500W Computer Power Supply SS-500ES, Active PFC, 80 Plus Certified, CrossFire and SLI Ready.
Enhance ENP-5150GH 500W ATX12V Rev.2.2 (24/20+8/4+6), 80+ RoHS
XCLIO GOODPOWER 500W ATX 500W Power Supply 115/ 230 V UL, CUL, TUV, CB, VDE, FIMKO, DEMKO, NEMKO, SEMKO

Out of those three that Enhance seems the best.
What about Corsair VX 450? It has about the same price.

Thanks for your suggestions Lemmy. I'm leaning towards the Enhance, but the Corsair looks great too.

I'd buy an ATI 3850 instead of a 8600 GTS. I know 8600 GTS cards are now cheaper but not much cheaper than these :

All three PSU you cited will be able to power your system.

Yeah, all those three units are more than decent for that particular system, but i must say my preference goes to the Seasonic one -as long it's similarly priced compared to the other two products.
Dang, price of RV670 family is falling rapidly there in USA, while i have to endure a fact that a HD 3850 512 MB price is higher than 9600 GT 512 MB, HD 3870 is more expensive compared to 8800 GT here in Indonesia. :(

Haha thanks for your suggestions, but I got a really good deal on my card. I got the 8600 GTS for $77 so it was a little more in my budget, but thanks for alerting me to these other ones for the future.

Same here. Basically even. Except EVGA cards which are very expensive.

Yeah, from the latest price list, HD 3870 price has gone a bit more reasonable, if you compare from the same vendor & bundle, like Asus, MSI, & Gigabyte. But still nowhere near the level appeared in USA, ATi pricing policy in my country SUX big balls.
I've been a long time fanATic -Radeon 9100 LE, 9550, 9800 Pro, X800 XT, X1900 XT 256 MB and finally X1950 XTX, but had turned & been assimilated into a green nVdiot borg last December because of their unforgiving price scheme -how can a reference board Forsa 8800 GT 512 MB card be priced 10% cheaper than a comparatively HD 3870 unit from other vendors ? After all their promises/rumors in the web that RV670 will be a price vs performance champion.
