Vista SP2(no that is not a typo) FTW. Because Microsoft managed to patch majority of issues in WinXP by SP2, but than again it took them 4 SPs to patch Win2k.

Under release notes it tells you to use Windows update yet update doesn't see the SP1 update. Very cool, the right hand still doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

Yeah... I noticed that too. Needless to say, I still haven't gotten my update. ;)

I d/l'ed the standalone and installed it. It took forever to apply the update after the initial reboot but after an hour of waiting on it to finish all seems well.

I've had it for awhile, and about the only differences I've noticed were file transfer speeds increased quite a bit. I don't know what's exactly changed behind the scenes.

I dunno, I haven't compared memory usage or CPU usage while farting around on the desktop, surfing the 'net and such. I know what it did use prior to SP1, I just haven't been in it enough to measure yet. Currently I'm formatting a 1TB RAID array in XP, I had no idea it'd take this bloody long.

This is listed under Things to know before you download Windows Vista SP1

Windows Update will recognize PCs with known problematic drivers and postpone downloading Windows Vista SP1 until the PC has updated drivers or other applicable updates. Using Windows Update will help ensure you have the most trouble-free update experience possible.

I hate to tell the boys in Redmond their business but I have the latest drivers on my rig. They keep harping about the disk controller driver but they're full of prunes, I HAVE the driver installed it keeps wanting to install via WU. This is part of the reason I mourn the passing of Autopatcher.

Autopatcher is alive. I don't know how much it changed (I don't use it) but you may want to give it a second chance.

Alive, sort of, but it's drastically changed and not a change for the better I'm afraid.

Understood. I never used it so I didn't have any idea about the differences between the old and the new one.
