View Full Version : Hiper Type-M 530W version 3
This is my first post in this forum so, first of all, hi to everyone and congratulations for this very interesting and competent site/forum.
I recently bought a Hiper Type-M 530W PSU... looking at the specs, it's clear that the unit is a version 3 (as stated on Hiper website). I analyzed the PSU carefully and noticed that it's completely different from the Type-M and Type-R I saw in the past... this is not Andyson anymore. This new unit has a purple PCB with Hiper logo printed on it... it uses Matsushita (primary) and Capxon capacitors and the aspect is a lot more clean and well assembled than the old Andyson based models.
I noticed (in a recent review) that another Hiper model (630W) has the same similar layout/PCB/design.
Some little auxiliar PCBs are green and are clearly from Seventeam, while the main and other PCBs, as I said, are marked Hiper... anyway, looking further on the net, I noticed that the disposition of the elements and the shape of the heatsinks are very similar to units (maybe) produced by CWT.
Any info?
Is there a chance for a review or an opinion from Jonny?
Bye!

If it has Seventeam daughterboards, it's all Seventeam ;)
Never seen CWT use Capxon to a large degree yet.

How were they "clearly marked SevenTeam."
Can you take any pics of the unit?
Thanks for the answer.
Jonny, on the little green aux PCB there was clearly written "Seventeam" then the Seventeam logo and then a code... it was a 4 character code, something like ST0x (don't remember the 'x').
Sadly, I can't take a photo as I had to immediately put the PSU on a customer PC and sell it before Christmas. I hope I will get some more of these units soon (as they seem to perform well and are relatively cheap).
Anyway, remember these 'parameters': mini-green aux PCB by Seventeam, main purple PCB with Hiper + Hiper's logo + some Hiper product code (HPU-4S533 if I'm not wrong) printed on it, Matsushita as main cap and Capxon for the rest. The fan was marked Adda and I'm sure that the general layout was almost identical to the HPU-4M630 recently reviewed by Benchmark Reviews.
In that review, there aren't photos of the internal part of the PSU, but I found another review of the same unit on a Norvegian site, where I noticed the similarity with the 530W version we are talking about... in that review they said that a CWT built unit by Chieftec is almost identical, but like Oklahoma Wolf I'm not convinced that this Hiper unit is made by CWT...

It's not - CWT doesn't source parts from Seventeam ;)

Well... I know there's some Hiper units enroute to Wolf as we type, so we may know the answer soon enough. ;)
Well Oklahoma Wolf, I basically agree with you, but this is a Hiper unit... Hiper may design their unit to use some parts from Seventeam on a general layout by CWT... anyway don't ask me why ;)
One fact is clear: the PCB is marked Hiper... this also sound strange isn't it? In general, company like Antec, Silverstone and so on, don't customize the PCB... they basically use the one of the PSU manufacturer: same color and same references printed. Am I wrong?
Well, I wanted to talk with you about this unit because I found it a little odd.

Never happen.

Yes you are wrong. A number of companies get their OEM to silk screen the PCB differently. PC Power and Cooling for instance gets the Silencer PCB silkscreened with their name and their product name even though it is an X900.

Yep. And look at the Antec True Power Quattro. They have Antec's part number on the Enhance PCB.
Ok ok guys, sorry for my wrong speculations ;)
Anyway, I've found some pictures of the inside of a very similar (almost identical) PSU... may I put a link to that page so you may take a look and tell me your ideas about who is the manufacturer?

Sure but if it has Seventeam PCB's in it chances are (and by taht I mean really it is a 99% chance) it is a Seventeam.
Ok, the link to the page where you can take a look to the 'new' layout I'm talking about is the following:
http://www.hardware.no/tester/stromforsyning/hiper_hpu-4m630/44128/3
As I previously wrote, this is the 630 Watts model but it is very similar to the new 530 Watts: purple PCB with Hiper logo, basically the same components placement (even if the 530 Watts version has few ones) and similar heatsinks location and shape except for the big heatsink near the primary cap (lacking on the 530 Watts). The 630 Watts PSU lacks the green auxiliar PCB with Seventeam logo I noticed in the 530 Watts one and uses different brands for caps.
What do you think?
The 630 you just linked to is a CWT.

Shep's right. That's a Channel Well. Not a SevenTeam.

So there is no Seventeam PCB's in this unit?
Just because Hiper has two products that look similar it doesn't mean they were manufactured by the same people so while this is a CWT a similar looking different wattage unit is not gaurenteed to be from the same OEM.

Boy that unit looks familiar....looks like the same CWT design is being used for their 630W and 880W units. Heck, I can't even see any difference between the two by looking at those pics of the 630 watter.
Well... at the end I think that the Type-M 530 is a Seventeam build.
As I said, it is very similar to the 630 Watts PSU but some differences lead me to think it is not CWT. Element dispositions are similar but the primary cap placement and, in general, the primary side of the PSU show some differences. Anyway I searched for some Seventeam units reviews and looking to different models I put together various elements and I can say that:
- the heatsinks are similar to the 630W model but not identical... instead they are identical to some Seventeam PSUs I found surfing the internet;
- the primary cap has some labels on it stating it is a green product with a code... I can see the same identical labels on the primary caps of a number of different Seventeam units;
- as said, the green daughterboards are marked Seventeam;
- I found a review of a Seventeam model that has the same identical coils protection of the Hiper 530 Watts;
So, beside the similarities, it really seems that the 630 Watts is CWT while the 530Watts version 3 is Seventeam.
Hope to see a review of it (them) here in the near future ;)
