Some of y'all will remember I built a computer sub not long ago using my Chrysler/Infinity stockpile. Well, I continued the insanity today.

I've been plotting to set up an office in the basement at home for quite some time to enable me to get some writing done in relative peace and quiet. However, in my case, relative means I usually like to listen to music when I work. Rather than spend money to go buy new computer speakers for the computer I'm putting together for that room, I decided to plunder my Chrysler/Infinity stockpile and use them instead.

A quick search of the premises turned up two old shelves of 3/4" thick plywood, which turned out to be just enough material to build the new speakers. Since I don't have access to a table saw (drat), I had to make do with an old jigsaw and try to keep the thing as straight as possible. So, these things ended up looking rather rustic. However, I am happy to report that the cuts did end up being pretty straight after all though some pieces weren't on target for size.

The speakers that went in are two of the minivan dash Chrysler/Infinity models with EMIT tweeters. The plan is to power the amps using the computer's power supply, while an old portable stereo I have lying around will supply the speaker level audio signal. These won't do bass very well, but they should be nice and accurate sounding. While the enclosures could stand to be a little bigger, I'm not displeased with the size.
Haven't gotten to the wiring yet - that'll happen in the next day or two.

Took about an hour and a half of cutting outside in freezing weather to get the floor to resemble this here speaker explosion simulation.

First one done.

Second one done with the drivers mounted. They look awful, but they're pretty well sealed. Can't wait to try them out :)
