Hi :). It's been a real headache for me for the last week to try my new video card. The Diamond support page is not working and there is not much in the web regarding the subject...
After studying the card power consumptions finally I've got a PSU with two separate 6-pin PCIe power connectors. As you probably know, these new video cards got 2 power gates – a 6-pin PCIe standard gate, and the new 8-pin PCIe2 gate.
I do not have 6-pin to 8-pin adapter so I was considering officially accepted connection using two 6-pin cables since I'm not going to overclock the card anyway. The only thing I'm worried about is that the manual from the package says I have to use the closest 6 pins to the 6-pin gate when I connect 6-pin cable to 8-pin gate, while it's impossible due to pin key of the 8-pin gate. The 6-pin cable fits perfectly to the furthermost 6 pins though. Also the illustration mentioned in the manual does not clearly shows the pins that should be used.
I do not want to burn my video together with the rest of my CPU, so could anyone help me to determine the pins I should use, please?
Here goes the exact piece of the manual:
Connect either two 2x3-pin PCIe™ power connectors, or one 2x3-pin
and one 2x4-pin PCIe™ power connector to the graphics card.
When connecting a 2x3-pin PCIe™ power connector to the 2x8-pin
connection on the ATI Radeon™ HD 2900 Series, as shown in the
previous illustration, the connector should cover the 6 pins of the 2x4-
pin connection that are closest to the 2x3-pin connection on the card.
and the homemade illustration to my problem:
